Bambusae Caulis Internodium Resina (Tian Zhu Huang): Sweet in taste, cold in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats infantile convulsions and Tian Diao (a pediatric emergency characterized by stiff neck and opisthotonos), calms the heart and spirit, brightens the eyes, dispels various wind-heat pathogens, treats metal weapon injuries (Jin Chuang), stops bleeding, and nourishes the five Zang organs. Also known as Bamboo Paste. People often adulterate it with burned bones and Polygonum multiflorum powder (Ge Fen). According to "Lin Hai Zhi", it is produced in Tian Zhu Country; nowadays, it can often be obtained from inside various bamboos. (Attached note)
Minister Yuxi et al. respectfully cite Ri Hua Zi: Neutral in nature, treating phlegm obstruction due to stroke, sudden aphonia, infantile Ke Wu (abnormal conditions in infants caused by external pathogens or fright), and excessive phlegm in epilepsy.
"Yan Yi" states: Tian Zhu Huang is indeed generated within the bamboo, resembling yellow earth adhering to the bamboo in sheets. It cools the Heart Meridian, dispels wind-heat, and is particularly suitable for pediatric use due to its mild and gentle action.
Mimenghua (Flos Buddlejae Officinalis): Sweet in taste, neutral and slightly cold in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats Qing Mang (progressive vision loss or blindness), Fu Yi (corneal nebula), redness and dryness of the eyes with excessive discharge and tearing, eliminates red vessels in the eyes, and treats infantile malnutrition diseases (such as Fudou disease) and Gan Qi attacking the eyes (ophthalmia due to infantile malnutrition). It grows in the river valleys of Yizhou. The tree is over one zhang high. The leaves resemble those of Ilex cornuta (Dong Qing) but are thicker, with a white backside covered in fine hairs. Flowers are harvested in February and March.
"Tujing" states: Mimenghua grows in the river valleys of Yizhou and is now found in all prefectures and counties of Shu. The tree is over one zhang high. The leaves resemble those of Ilex cornuta but are thicker, with a white backside covered in fine hairs, and also somewhat resemble the leaves of Citrus reticulata (Ju Ye). The flowers are slightly purple. Flowers are harvested in February and March and used after sun-drying. This plant belongs to the woody category yet is listed in the Herbal section; the reason for this classification is unknown.
Lei Gong says: When preparing this herb, first select it to ensure cleanliness, soak it in wine overnight, drain and let it dry, then mix with honey to moisten it. Steam it from Mao hour to You hour, then take it out and sun-dry. Repeat the process of mixing with honey, steaming, and drying three times, then sun-dry for final use. For every liang processed, use eight liang of wine for soaking until the color changes, then steam with half a liang of honey. This herb was originally named Xiao Jin Hua.
"Yan Yi" states: Mimenghua is very abundant in Lizhou Lu. The leaves do not fall even in winter, yet they differ from Ilex cornuta. They are tender but not smooth/shiny, not deep green. The flowers are small and fragmented, with dozens of flower chambers forming a single bloom. It grows in winter and blooms in spring. This is a woody plant, yet it is currently placed in the herbal section, which may be inappropriate.
