(Peacock excrement) is slightly cold in nature. It primarily treats leukorrhea (vaginal discharge) in women and difficult urination.
Tao Hongjing stated: It originates from Guang and Yi prefectures. It is rarely used in medical prescriptions. The annotation of *Xinxiu Bencao* notes: Peacocks are found in Jiao and Guang regions, but were originally absent in the Jiannan area. Ministers Yu Xi et al., according to Chen Cangqi, state: Peacocks have a salty taste and are non-toxic. Ri Huazi states: Peacocks are cool in nature and slightly toxic. They can resolve medicinal poison and gu poison. Peacock blood treats poisoning; drinking it raw is effective. Peacock feces treat metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, and can be applied externally to malignant sores.
*Yanyi* states: Peacock tail feathers must not enter the eyes, as they cause visual obscurity and corneal opacity.
(Vulture/Eagle) has a salty taste, is neutral in nature, and is non-toxic. It primarily treats cephalalgia due to wind, vertigo with disorientation, and epilepsy.
Tao Hongjing stated: This is the bird commonly called "lao chi" (old owl/vulture). Also known as yuan. Vultures, eagles, and ospreys are similar but larger. Although gender does not strictly matter, the male may be more potent. When using vulture heads for wine infusion, they should be lightly roasted, avoiding those infested with insects.
*Shiliao* states: Vulture heads, when calcined to ash, treat cephalalgia due to wind and vertigo; taken orally with water. Vulture meat, when consumed, treats epilepsy. *Qianjin Fang*: Treats epileptic convulsions.
(Waterbird KT) has a sweet taste, is neutral in nature, and is non-toxic. It treats fright-evil. Consumption treats duanhu (a mythical poisonous creature/water sprite). It can be raised and serves to repel duanhu. Where duanhu exists, there are often birds named KT, displaying five colors, with tails resembling ship rudders, smaller than ducks. *Linhai Yiwu Zhi* states: KT is a waterbird that eats duanhu. In mountains and marshes, its presence eliminates toxic vapors. Du Taiqing's *Huai Fu* states: KT seeks out evil and drives away harm. (Newly supplemented)
(Spotted Dove) has a sweet taste, is neutral in nature, and is non-toxic. It primarily improves vision. Consuming its meat tonifies qi and assists yin-yang balance. Also known as banjiu. Fan's formula includes Banjiu Wan. It is found everywhere. At the Spring Equinox, it transforms into Huanghe Hou; at the Autumn Equinox, it transforms into Banjiu. There is also Qingbanjiu, which is neutral in nature and non-toxic. It calms the five zang organs, assists in cases of qi deficiency and damage, drains pus, treats blood disorders, and addresses all types of carbuncles, furuncles, and abscesses. Also known as Huanghe Niao. (Newly supplemented)
*Yanyi* states: Banjiu refers to the spotted dove. Having raised them for several years, I did not observe transformation during the spring and autumn equinoxes. Some have spots, some do not, some are gray, some small, some large. People suffering from chronic deficiency consume it to tonify qi. Despite these color variations, their medicinal efficacy is identical.
