《图经本草》说：石蛇，出产于南海水边的山石之间，形状盘曲像蛇一样，没有头尾，内部中空，呈红紫色，又有点像车螺，不知道是什么东西化成的？大体上与石蟹同类，功效也相近。尤其能解金石毒，以左旋盘绕的为良材。采集没有固定时间。味咸，性平，无毒。
《衍义》说：石蛇，《本经》未收录，开始自《开宝本草》添附。它的颜色像古墙上的泥土，盘结如楂梨大小，中间空心，两头粗细一致，没有盖子，不与石蟹同类。蟹是真正的蟹，蛇不是真正的蛇。现在人极少使用它。

《图经本草》说：黑羊石，生长在兖州宫山的西侧。味道淡，性热，能解药毒。春季挖掘地面采集，以黑色且有墙壁般光莹者为上品。

*Shenghui Fang*: Treats cough during pregnancy. Take one chariot axle hub, burn it until red-hot, put it into wine, wait for it to cool and freeze, then drink it. *Waitai Miyao*: Treats hematochezia (blood in stool) in children. Take one chariot axle hub, burn it until red-hot, place it in water, and consume the water.
Nan'en Prefecture Stone Snake \pd45.bmp\
*Tujing Bencao* states: Stone snake is found among rocks near the sea in Nan'en Prefecture. Its shape coils like a snake, without head or tail, hollow inside, reddish-purple in color, resembling a chariot snail shell. It is unknown what substance transforms into it. Generally, it is similar to stone crab, and its functions are also similar. It is particularly effective in resolving mineral toxicity; those coiled to the left are superior. It can be collected at any time. Salty in taste, neutral in nature, non-toxic.
*Yanyi* states: Stone snake was not included in *Benjing*, but was added starting from *Kaibao Bencao*. Its color resembles earth on ancient walls, coiled like a jujube or pear in size, hollow in the middle, with both ends of equal thickness, without a lid, and is not of the same category as stone crab. The crab is a true crab, while the snake is not a true snake. It is rarely used by people nowadays.

*Tujing Bencao* states: Black sheep stone grows west of Gongshan in Yanzhou. Bland in taste, hot in nature, resolves drug toxicity. Dug from the ground in spring; those that are black and lustrous like glazed walls are considered the best grade.
*Tujing Bencao* states: White sheep stone grows on Baiyang Mountain in Yanzhou. Bland in taste. Its nature: when processed (cooked), it is extremely hot; when raw, it is cool. Resolves various drug toxicities. Dug from the ground in spring.

The method involves combining white tin, silver foil, and mercury. It can also be used to fill missing teeth, should be hard and solid like silver, and requires specific refining methods.
