The Foot-Shaoyin meridian is the channel of the Kidney, where the major vessels converge, and its qi connects with the ear. If this meridian is deficient, wind-pathogens take advantage of the weakness to invade. When wind enters the meridians of the ear, it causes the meridian qi to become obstructed and unable to circulate freely, thus resulting in Wind Deafness (Feng Long). As wind travels along the qi and meridians to the head and brain, it causes deafness accompanied by intermittent headaches; hence it is called Wind Deafness.
The Foot-Shaoyin meridian is the channel of the Kidney, where the major vessels converge. Its qi connects with the ear. If labor and overwork injure the Kidney, the major vessels become deficient, leading to insufficiency of blood and qi, thus resulting in Labor-induced Deafness (Lao Long). This condition worsens with exertion. However, if one rests appropriately and achieves a state of balanced blood and qi, the hearing loss will alleviate.
The Foot-Shaoyin meridian is the channel of the Kidney, where the major vessels converge. Its qi connects with the ear. If labor and overwork injure the Kidney, causing deficiency of the major vessels and insufficiency of blood and qi, and if wind-pathogens invade during this vulnerable state, deafness ensues. In cases of severe injury from labor, where blood and qi are extremely depleted, wind-pathogens stagnate, resulting in Chronic Deafness (Jiu Long).
Kidney qi connects with the ear, and the Foot-Shaoyin meridian is the channel of the Kidney, where the major vessels converge. If physical labor depletes the blood within the channels, leading to insufficiency of blood and qi and deficiency of the major vessels, wind-pathogens may invade the ear through the meridians while the body is weak. The wind interacts with the internal qi, thus causing Tinnitus (Er Ming).
Upon examining the pulse at the Cun Kou position on the right hand (specifically before the Qi point), a floating pulse indicates Yang, corresponding to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine meridian; a deep pulse indicates Yin, corresponding to the Hand-Taiyin Lung meridian. If both Yin and Yang pulses are deficient, it signifies damage to the skin and blood/qi, and insufficiency of the major vessels. The patient suffers from noisy tinnitus and visual hallucinations of light. This indicates deficiency in both the Lung and Large Intestine meridians.
At the Chi position on the right hand, posterior to Shenmen, a floating pulse indicates Yang, corresponding to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder meridian. A deficient pulse here indicates Bladder deficiency. Since the Kidney and Bladder are interiorly-exteriorly related, the patient suffers from tinnitus, sudden hearing loss, and aversion to wind. Bladder deficiency leads to Excess in the Sanjiao (Triple Burner). The Bladder is the mansion of body fluids; if the Sanjiao is in an excess state, it consumes these fluids. Consequently, the depletion of fluids manifests as Bladder deficiency. If tinnitus persists, it may progress to deafness.
The ear is where the major vessels converge and where Kidney qi penetrates. The Foot-Shaoyin meridian is the channel of the Kidney. If labor and overwork injure blood and qi, heat pathogens invade due to the deficiency, entering the meridians. The pathogenic factors follow the blood and qi to the ear. When heat accumulates, it generates pus and fluid, thus resulting in Ear Carbuncle/Suppuration (Er Gai, referring to suppurative ear disease).
