The manifestations of Grain Jaundice (Gu Dan) include aversion to cold, fever, anorexia, dizziness after eating, palpitations with a sense of oppression and restlessness in the chest, and yellowing of the skin. These are caused by binge eating after prolonged hunger, leading to the upward rushing and steaming of Stomach Qi.
In Yangming Disease (Yangming Bing), if the pulse is slow, the patient finds it difficult to eat until full; if feeling full leads to irritability and dizziness, there will inevitably be difficulty in urination. This indicates the impending development of Grain Jaundice. Even if purgative treatment is applied, abdominal fullness will persist, due to the slow pulse.
The manifestations of Female Labor Jaundice (Nü Lao Dan) include yellowing of the body and eyes, fever with aversion to cold, fullness and urgency in the lower abdomen, and difficulty in urination. These result from sexual intercourse while suffering from severe fatigue and internal heat, followed by exposure to cold or pathogenic factors immediately after coitus.
The manifestations of Black Jaundice (Hei Dan) include distress over lower abdominal fullness, complete yellowing of the body, blackening of the forehead, heat in the soles of the feet, and black stool. Yellow Jaundice, Wine Jaundice, and Female Labor Jaundice, if lingering for a long time, often transform into Black Jaundice.
The so-called Nine Jaundices are: one is Stomach Jaundice, two is Heart Jaundice, three is Kidney Jaundice, four is Intestine Jaundice, five is Paste Jaundice, six is Tongue Jaundice, seven is Body Jaundice, eight is Flesh Jaundice, and nine is Liver Jaundice.
All types of jaundice diseases are caused by excessive diet, drunkenness, and labor injury, resulting in stagnant heat in the Spleen and Stomach. The disease manifests as yellowing of the face and body, differing only in their specific names.
The pathology of Bladder Jaundice (Pao Dan) involves heat in the Small Intestine flowing into the Bladder (Pao), causing both urine and feces to resemble dark cypress juice; this is termed Bladder Jaundice.
When Wind-Dampness invades the Zang-Fu organs and contends with Heat Qi, jaundice occurs. Urine may be red or white, the patient prefers lying down, experiences heart tremors, and has a pale black complexion, named [text incomplete].
The pathology of Damp-Jaundice (Shi Dan) involves heat in the Spleen and Stomach contending with Dampness. Consequently, the patient suffers from body pain, yellowing of the face and eyes, and difficult urination; this is termed Damp-Jaundice.
Those suffering from Heat Diseases (Re Bing) do so because of deficiencies or excesses in Blood and Qi. When pathogens reside in the Spleen and Stomach, there is an excess of Yang Qi and a deficiency of Yin Qi. Thus, Wind pathogens cannot be dispersed, generating heat. This heat contends with the Zang-Fu organs, resulting in Heat Disease.
Upon diagnosis, if the Guan position pulse is floating and rapid, it indicates Heat in the Stomach; if slippery and swift, it also indicates Heat; if weak, it indicates a lack of Stomach Qi, signifying Deficient Heat. If the Fuyang pulse is rapid, it indicates Heat in the Stomach, where heat consumes food and increases appetite. If the Fuyang pulse is coarse and floating, the disease is difficult to treat. If a patient suffers from fever and body pain, indicating a Exterior condition, the pulse should naturally be floating. However, if the pulse is instead deep and slow, it indicates that recovery will be difficult; if not cured promptly, death is inevitable, because the disease presentation contradicts the pulse. Regarding treatments such as decoctions, moxibustion/warming, acupuncture, and stone therapy, there are separate standard formulas. Nourishing and guiding exercises are attached below.
The *Health Preservation Formulas · Guiding Methods* states: Lie supine, bring the knees together, spread the feet, extend the waist, inhale through the mouth, and vibrate the abdomen to its limit for seven breaths. This eliminates high fever and pain, and restores mobility to the lower legs.
It also states: Lie prone without a pillow, stand on both feet, inhale through the nose forty times, then exhale through the nose. Make the air entering the nose extremely subtle, so as not to feel it. This eliminates internal heat and back pain.
It further states: Support the body with hands behind, tilt the head back towards the sun, inhale through the mouth, and swallow dozens of times. This eliminates heat, bodily injuries, and necrotic muscle tissue.
