Disharmony of cold and heat, and irregular diet, cause the yin and yang, clear and turbid qi to interfere with each other, leading to chaos between the stomach and intestines, thus forming Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome).
Those suffering from Huoluan accompanied by vexation in the heart are so due to severe vomiting and diarrhea, which cause the qi of the fu and zang organs to become extremely depleted. Vomiting is a reversal of stomach qi; diarrhea is a deficiency of the intestines. If severe vomiting and diarrhea occur, the deficiency and reversal become even more severe, the Sanjiao (Triple Burner) loses its regulation, and the five zang organs fail to harmonize. Cold combats with qi, and the reversing qi ascends to attack the heart, hence the vexation. There are also cases where vexation occurs without prior vomiting or diarrhea; this is because cold qi enters the stomach and intestines, causing food and fluids to fail to digest upon encountering cold. The accumulation stagnates and fails to circulate freely, and the qi reverses upward, thus also causing vexation.

Those suffering from Huoluan accompanied by dry heaves are so due to extreme deficiency of the spleen and stomach following vomiting and purging, dysfunction of the Sanjiao, and qi obstruction knotting below the heart. The qi frequently reverses upward, hence the dry heaves. Dry heave refers to the desire to vomit but with nothing coming out. If further exposed to cold, the cold damages the stomach qi, causing it to become obstructed, which then transforms into hiccups (yue).
Dishonarmony of cold and heat, and irregular diet, cause the yin and yang, clear and turbid qi to interfere with each other, leading to chaos between the stomach and intestines, thus forming Huoluan.
Those suffering from Huoluan accompanied by palpitations in the heart and abdomen are so due to disharmony of the Sanjiao and five zang organs after vomiting and purging, allowing water qi to ascend and attack the heart. The Kidney governs water, and its qi connects to the yin regions. After vomiting and purging, the Sanjiao and five zang organs are disharmonious, causing kidney qi to also become deficient. Unable to control water, the water fails to descend and circulate, ascending together with qi to attack the heart. The manifestation begins below the umbilicus, rising through the abdomen to the heart, where the qi beats rhythmically and palpitations are unstable.

Those suffering from Huoluan accompanied by vomiting and vexation are so because after vomiting and purging, the stomach is deficient and qi reverses, causing vomiting; the reversed qi attacks the heart, causing vexation. This is why vomiting and vexation occur together.
Disharmony of cold and heat, and irregular diet, cause the yin and yang, clear and turbid qi to interfere with each other, leading to chaos between the stomach and intestines, thus forming Huoluan. Huoluan typically involves severe vomiting and diarrhea. Gan Huoluan (dry cholera) occurs when cold qi combats the stomach and intestines, preventing the digestion of food and drink. It presents only with abdominal fullness, mental restlessness, colicky pain, and shortness of breath. Because the stomach and intestines initially contain excess pathogenic factors, vomiting and diarrhea do not occur; this condition is named Gan Huoluan.
