The blood in the whole body has a head, traveling day and night without stopping. If injured at the specific time or acupoint, failure to treat within seven days (one week) will lead to death. At Zi hour (11 PM–1 AM), it travels to the heart pit; at Chou hour (1 AM–3 AM), one must seek the spring well. The well mouth is Yin hour (3 AM–5 AM), the mountain root is Mao hour (5 AM–7 AM), reaching the heavenly heart at Chen hour (7 AM–9 AM), and the phoenix head at Si hour (9 AM–11 AM). At Wu hour (11 AM–1 PM), it meets with the central region, dividing into the left and right moon palaces at Wei hour (1 PM–3 PM). The phoenix tail belongs to Shen hour (3 PM–5 PM), the bent well to You hour (5 PM–7 PM), and both the Dan (elixir field) and kidneys are positioned at Xu hour (7 PM–9 PM). The six palaces arrive directly at Hai hour (9 PM–11 PM); not binding them chaotically is considered precious.
When the side of injury (left or right) is unknown, if there is hematemesis (vomiting blood), the blood itself clarifies this. Dark blood indicates left-sided injury, while bright red blood indicates right-sided injury. If no blood is vomited, observing the eyeballs can also determine the location. If the black pupil is covered by the upper eyelid (Chou position), the injury is on the left. If the white sclera is covered by the upper eyelid and accompanied by redness and enlargement, the injury is on the right. The left belongs to the Liver, and the right belongs to the Lung. The black pupil belongs to the Liver, the white sclera to the Lung, and the pupil to the Kidney. It is common that when the right side is injured, pain manifests on the left side during flare-ups. One cannot treat only one side; both left and right must be treated simultaneously for the disease to heal.
Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) and Myrrh (Moyao, 没药) are two ingredients frequently used in formulas. It is essential to remove their oil content; if the oil is not removed, fear that the condition may recur. Human infant bone (Xiao'er Gu, 小儿骨) is occasionally included in formulas. I ask what fault infants have? They have just left the mother's womb, their bones formed and forms dissolved. Using humans to treat humans is extremely cruel. The Dazao Wan (Great Creation Pill) contains Placenta Humana (Ziheche, 紫河车). Zhang Jingyue considered it damaging to the congenital essence of offspring and advised people to use it sparingly, let alone infant bone. In compiling various formulas, I saw some using this ingredient and completely removed them, replacing them with Monkey Bone (Hougu, 猴骨).
The "Jingmai" (Meridian Channels) chapter of the *Lingshu* (Spiritual Pivot) details acupoint names extensively. Mr. Xu and Mr. Hua both have mnemonic verses. Mr. Hua’s *Shi Si Jing Fa Hui* (Elucidation of the Fourteen Meridians) provides clearer diagrams and annotations. Occasionally, novel items are taken from outside the *Lingshu* and *Suwen* (Plain Questions), but their source is unknown. Li Shizhen of Binhu’s *Bencao Gangmu* (Compendium of Materia Medica) covers over 1,600 species, which is comprehensive. Different names for the same substance are noted one by one. Those not collected are scattered within the compilation; they are still added based on the original text pending further verification.
The following prescriptions and medicines are divided into seven categories.
Parents give birth to children with complete bodies, and children should return them complete. This can be called filial piety. If the body is injured, how can it be complete? However, if treated appropriately, the incomplete can become complete again. This too does not lose its nature as filial piety. Thus, the "Whole Body Section" is compiled.
