Commentary by Jie: Zhang Zhongjing stated: In Shaoyin disease, if there is diarrhea, sore throat, chest fullness, and irritability, Zhu Fu Tang (Pig Skin Decoction) should be used. This case belongs to latent pathogen originating from Shaoyin and erupting internally causing sore throat. Although Zhu Fu Tang was not used, the first prescription dispersed warm-heat pathogens and cleared fire and detoxified, resulting in slight improvement of sore throat; the second prescription modified from Gan Jie Tang (Licorice and Platycodon Decoction) cleared internal heat of Shaoyin, leading to slight reduction of cough and qi rebellion; the third prescription addressed spontaneous diarrhea using acrid and bland diuretics, allowing dampness to drain and spleen qi to strengthen, thus naturally achieving recovery.
