The meridian of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine originates at the ulnar end of the little finger. It follows the ulnar side of the hand, ascends to the wrist, and emerges from the styloid process of the ulna (Huai). It goes straight up along the lower border of the ulna, emerging between the two bones on the medial side of the elbow. It then ascends along the posterior lateral border of the upper arm.
It emerges from the shoulder joint (Jianjie), circles around the scapula, intersects at the shoulders, enters the Supraclavacular Fossa (Quepen), connects with the Heart, follows the pharynx, descends through the diaphragm, reaches the Stomach, and belongs to the Small Intestine. Its branch arises from the Supraclavacular Fossa, follows the neck, ascends to the cheek, reaches the outer canthus (Ruizi), and then enters the ear. Another branch diverges from the cheek, ascends to the zygomatic region, reaches the nose, and obliquely connects with the zygomatic bone. There are nineteen acupoints in total; here, three points are selected for introduction.
Shaoze (SI1) (also known as Xiaoji): Located at the ulnar end of the little finger, in the depression one fen away from the corner of the nail. The *Jia Yi Jing* states: "At the end of the little finger, one fen away from the corner of the nail." This is the Jing-Well point where the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine meridian issues. Houxi (SI3): Located in the depression at the tip of the transverse crease on the lateral side of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the little finger when the hand is supinated and clenched into a fist. Another description places it in the depression below the prominent bone at the anterior-lateral aspect of the wrist, starting from the knuckle. This is the Shu-Stream point where the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine meridian pours. Needle depth: one fen; retain needle for two breaths; moxibustion: one cone.
