The sores resemble millet grains covering the face, spreading excessively. Sometimes they develop into large blisters with unbearable pain. Acupuncture and medication must follow correct principles. The patient will relax, and the illness will not invade again.
Initially, there is fever with redness and swelling of the entire face. At first, it appears like small yellow millet-like sores; after a long time, they merge into large blisters. Initially, frequently wash the area with Jiaojiao medicine decocted from Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba) and Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus). Then, apply Jiaojiao medicine mixed with Jingjie decoction to the blisters.
Take Zidi Tang (Purple Earth Decoction). Do not puncture with needles during the initial stage. Wait until large blisters form, then use a needle to puncture downwards from the opening to drain pus and blood; this will be effective naturally.
Luofeng (Scrofula Wind) presents as nodules resembling kernels, similar in description to boils. Do not suspect this condition arises from karmic debts; excellent medicines can eliminate these chronic ailments and restore balance.
This condition starts on the face with redness and swelling like small boils, gradually spreading until the entire head is swollen with nodules. Use a skin-breaking needle to prick each nodule to release slight bleeding, apply Jiaojiao medicine, and take Zidi Tang for effectiveness.
Illness arising in the submandibular region is an inauspicious sign. Fortunately, there is a secret prescription passed down from immortals: frequently apply Jiaojiao medicine and take Zidi Tang. Treat gradually without panic.
Redness and swelling with nodules under both cheeks are easy to treat if only one or two appear initially on one side. If many develop over time and penetrate into the mouth causing spontaneous ulceration, it is mostly incurable. Apply Jiaojiao medicine externally and take Zidi Tang internally; acupuncture may be used. (When swelling is severe, use a Biren needle to prick the head of the swelling to bleed, then continue applying the previous medicine.)
Feizhu Si Ji occurs at the ear margin. Pain and swelling indicate a serious condition. Supporting healthy Qi, opening pathways, and advancing treatment quickly, frequent application of medicines brings immediate relief.
Swelling like nodules above the earlobes, occurring on one side, should be treated with external application of Jiaojiao medicine and internal administration of Zidi Tang. Add Kaiguan San (Opening the Gate Powder); acupuncture can be used. Pricking the nodule yields immediate effect.
Yanjing Feng (Neck-Enveloping Wind) suddenly appears on either side of the neck. It is clearly red and swollen, resembling an abscess. People should not regard it as an ordinary ailment. Zidi Tang combined with Xingwu San (Acorus and Asarum Powder) has miraculous efficacy.
Swelling and abscess formation on the neck, whether on the left, right, or generally swollen, should have Jiaojiao medicine applied topically and Zidi Tang taken internally. If the swelling is large, red, and severe, acupuncture at the swollen area is permissible.
Chantou syndrome (Throat-Entangling Disease) is not rare; when voice is lost for a long time, the airway becomes critical. Seeing this form requires rapid intervention; even Cangong would frown upon encountering it.
Initially, redness and swelling extend from the outer neck to the throat, causing full obstruction without distinction between red and white areas, eventually swelling all around. First, use Xingwu San, add Mofeng Gao (Wind-Rubbing Ointment) for internal holding and external application, and blow Chilin San (Red Scale Powder) and Huisheng Dan (Life-Returning Pill) into the throat.
Take Zidi Tang plus Kaiguan San. If swelling covers the entire neck and head, it is an extremely severe but treatable condition; one must open the wind pathway via acupuncture. If the condition persists for a long time and is difficult to treat, do not use skin-breaking needles or knives.
Shufu Shi stated: This condition results from excessive consumption of rich foods, leading to accumulated heat in the Lung and Stomach, compounded by wind pathogen obstructing the throat upwards. Symptoms include redness, swelling, tightness, pain, difficulty speaking, inability to swallow liquids, and gurgling sounds due to phlegm obstruction, resembling the sound of sawing. Since onset is sudden and rapid, urgently prick Shaoshang (LU11) acupoint to drain heat. For severe phlegm, use Jiaojiao medicine for internal holding. For severe cases, take Xionghuang Jiedu Wan (Realgar Detoxification Pill). Cyan complexion, black lips, and cold nasal discharge indicate adverse prognoses. Another type arises from heat in the Kidney meridian causing internal dryness and failure to moisten upwards, leading to flourishing Heart Fire. Symptoms include internal tightness, external swelling, tidal fever, and aversion to cold; this is a excess pattern, treated as previously described. If deficiency exists due to excessive worry, combined with overconsumption of Five Pungent Spices, the onset is slow, color is pale, swelling is mild, throat is dry, tongue has white coating, stool is loose, six pulses are slightly floating but weak upon heavy pressure, and swallowing causes pain. This is named Manhoufeng (Slow Throat Wind), belonging to a deficiency pattern, requiring supportive treatment. If pain occurs before noon, take Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) added with Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix). If pain occurs after noon, accompanied by thirst, body heat, and cold feet, this indicates dual deficiency of Yin and Yang; avoid bitter-cold herbs, instead use Shaoyin Ganjie Tang (Minor Yin Licorice and Platycodon Decoction) to disseminate. If face is red, throat is dry without thirst, but with slight obstruction and pain, the pulse must be empty and large; take Qinglu Yin (Clear Dew Drink) and simultaneously apply Qingxue Dan (Green Snow Pill) via insufflation; verification will occur naturally.
