General Verse: Baihe Bing (Lily Disease, a condition caused by pathogenic invasion of all vessels, characterized primarily by yin deficiency and internal heat of the Heart and Lung) arises from the simultaneous pathology of all vessels. The patient's daily activities are abnormal, and symptoms are complex and diverse, making them difficult to categorize under conventional names. If treated erroneously with sweating methods, it leads to fluid consumption, resulting in symptoms such as aversion to cold and shivering.
For Baihe Bing that has undergone sweating treatment without resolution or with worsening conditions, this formula is indicated.
Herbs: He Tian Ma (Bulbus Lilii, 10 pieces), Mu Tong (Radix Anemarrhenae, 3 liang).
Decoction Method: First, wash the Bulbus Lilii with water and soak it overnight. When white foam appears on the surface, discard the soaking water. Take 2 sheng of Spring Water separately, decoct the Bulbus Lilii until 1 sheng remains, then strain off the dregs. Take another 2 sheng of Spring Water separately, decoct the Radix Anemarrhenae until 1 sheng remains, then strain off the dregs. Mix the two liquid extracts, decoct again until 1.5 sheng remains, and take warm in two divided doses.
Verse: Baihe Bing should not have been treated with sweating; sweating damages Yin. The dosage of Radix Anemarrhenae should follow the guideline of 3 liang. The Bulbus Lilii should be soaked for seven nights (Note: Textual variant exists, usually one night; "seven" here follows the original text literally) to remove foam and saliva; decocting separately with Spring Water is the golden key. (Annotations from various formulas omitted.)
Yu Xi's Commentary: All vessels in the body converge at the Lung. If all vessels are diseased, the pathological manifestations are错综复杂 (complex and mixed), and cannot be treated individually. One should only treat via the Lung. The Lung governs Qi... [Text truncated]
Wang Jinsan said: The original text states "All vessels share one origin," clearly indicating that the disease root returns to the Lung. The sovereign herb, Bulbus Lilii, is sweet and cool, clearing and moistening the Lung; based on this, this disease can be treated. Further assisting with... [Text truncated]

For Baihe Bing that has undergone purgation treatment without resolution, this decoction is indicated.
Herbs: He Tian Ma (Bulbus Lilii, 7 pieces, broken), Hua Shi (Talcum, 3 liang, crushed, wrapped in silk), Dai Zhe Shi (Haematitum, size of a bullet, 1 piece, crushed, wrapped in silk).
Decoction Method: First, decoct the Bulbus Lilii according to the previous method. Separately, take 2 sheng of Spring Water, decoct the Talcum and Haematitum, obtain 1 sheng of liquid, and strain off the dregs. Then combine the Bulbus Lilii liquid with the Talcum and Haematitum liquids, decoct again, obtain 1 sheng, and take in divided doses.
Verse: Baihe Bing should not have been treated with purgation; erroneous purgation may temporarily improve but relapse easily. Since purgation was erroneously used, residual pathogens must still be cleared. Use 7 pieces of Bulbus Lilii, Haematitum the size of a bullet, and 3 liang of Talcum; the efficacy is praiseworthy.
Yu Xi's Commentary: Erroneous purgation causes Heat to sink inward. Sinking Heat inevitably damages the Yin of the Lower Jiao. Therefore, use Bulbus Lilii to clear and tonify Lung Metal, thereby drawing forth the source of Water; use Haematitum to anchor... [Text truncated]
Wang Jinsan said: Erroneous purgation damaging the Shaoyin Meridian causes a sensation of cold during urination. Talcum connects upward to Lung Qi and downward to the Yang of the Taiyang Meridian. Fearing that Talcum's function of unblocking the Fu organs and promoting urination still... [Text truncated]
For Baihe Bing that has undergone emesis treatment without resolution, this formula is indicated.
Herbs: He Tian Ma (Bulbus Lilii, 7 pieces), Ji Zi Huang (Ovi Albumen, 1 piece).
Decoction Method: First, decoct the Bulbus Lilii according to the previous method, obtaining 1 sheng of liquid, and strain off the dregs. Add the Ovi Albumen, stir evenly, and decoct for a short while (approx. 5 fen), then take warm.
Verse: Baihe Bing should not have been treated with emesis; emesis damages the Middle Qi. (The Middle Qi is the guardian of Yin.) One must rely on the upward delivery of Yin Essence to achieve effect. (The Neijing states: If Yin Essence is delivered upward to the person, longevity is achieved...)
Yu Xi's Commentary: After emesis, the Middle Qi is damaged, and the disease is in the Yin aspect. Yin injury necessitates using Ovi Albumen to nourish the Yin of the Heart and Stomach, while Bulbus Lilii moistens Lung Qi and descends to dryness... [Text truncated]
Wang Jinsan said: Erroneous emesis damaging the Yangming Meridian uses Ovi Albumen to rescue the Yin of the Jueyin Meridian to stabilize Stomach Qi. Rescuing Jueyin is thus securing Yangming. Rescuing the Lung... [Text truncated]
