Treats patients with lung abscess (Lung Abscess) presenting with wheezing and inability to lie flat.
Tingli (Periplocae Semen, Tinglizi), roasted until yellow, pounded into pills the size of a chicken egg. Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, Dazao), twelve pieces.
First, boil the jujubes in three sheng of water, reduce to two sheng, remove the dregs, add Tingli, and boil to obtain one sheng of decoction. Take all at once.
The song states: Wheezing with inability to lie flat indicates Lung Abscess has formed. The mouth feels parched dry. Chest pain is dull. The pulse is rapid and excess.
You Zaijing says: Tingli is bitter and cold, entering the Lung to drain Qi obstruction. Adding Dazao, which is sweet and warm, harmonizes the medicinal power. This is similar to the method of using jujube paste with Zaoying Wan.
Treats lung abscess manifesting as cough with chest fullness, chills, rapid pulse, dry throat without thirst, frequent expectoration of turbid saliva with a foul odor, and long-term expectoration of pus resembling rice porridge. This decoction is indicated.
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, Jiegeng), one liang. Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Gancao), two liang.
Boil these ingredients in three sheng of water, reduce to one sheng, and take half warm each time. Pus and blood will be expelled.
The song states: When pus resembles rice porridge, the Lung must be cleared. As the toxin breaks out and support is difficult, medication should be mild. Two parts Gancao and one part Jiegeng allow Earth and Metal to transform and generate life continuously.
Yuansi notes: When Lung Abscess has not yet formed pus, Tingli is used to purge it. Now that it has ruptured, this decoction is used to discharge pus and detoxify. Treatment should be gradual; harsh attack is contraindicated. For other explanations, see Changsha Fang Ge Kuo.
Treats cough with rebellious Qi, known as Lung Distension. The patient wheezes, eyes appear protruding as if about to fall out, and the pulse is floating and large. This decoction is indicated.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, Mahuang), six liang. Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, Shigao), half a jin. Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, Shengjiang), three liang. Dazao (Jujubae Fructus, Dazao), twelve pieces. Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Gancao), two liang. Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum, Banxia).
Take the above six herbs, boil in six sheng of water. First boil Mahuang, remove the foam on the surface, then add the remaining herbs. Boil to obtain three sheng. Divide into three warm doses.
The song states: Wind-Water pathogen is abundant, so Qi is also abundant. Wind and Water contend like surging waves. Yuebi Tang alone pacifies Wind-Water. Adding Banxia stabilizes the great waves.
Yuansi notes: This Lung Distension originates from Wind-Water contention, with hot Qi surging upward to steam the Huagai (Lungs) and enter the orifices. Hence symptoms include cough, rebellious Qi, wheezing, and eyes protruding. The floating and large pulse occurs because Wind is a Yang pathogen, agitating within. The formula uses Mahuang and Shengjiang to directly attack external pathogens, Shigao to clear internal heat, Gancao...
