Hemorrhage due to Qi rebellion refers to blood flowing recklessly following the upward rebellion of Qi, often resulting from sudden rage causing Qi stagnation and reversal. The Classics state: "The Yang Qi of the human body, when subjected to great anger, causes the form and Qi to become severed, and blood becomes depressed in the upper part, leading to a condition known as Bo Jue (thin syncope)." It is also stated that "anger causes Qi to rebel; in severe cases, it leads to vomiting blood or diarrhea with undigested food." Such conditions must present with symptoms such as fullness and pain in the chest and hypochondrium. It is appropriate to use herbs such as Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Chen Pi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae), Zhi Ke (Fructus Aurantii), and Bei Mu (Bulbus Fritillariae Cirrhosae) to move Qi, after which the blood will naturally descend. If Liver Fire rebels due to Qi stagnation, there will inevitably be symptoms such as irritability, dryness, and thirst. It is appropriate to use herbs such as Bai Shao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Sheng Di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan), Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae), and Lian Zi (Semen Nelumbinis) to subdue the fire, after which the blood will naturally settle.
Xiao Wu Chen Tang (Minor Black Stagnation Decoction)
Wu Yao (Linderae Radix, removed core, 10 liang), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, stir-fried, 1 liang), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma, stir-fried, washed in a mortar to remove hairs and skin, then dried, 20 liang). The above three ingredients are ground into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, at any time, mixed with boiling water.
Note: Great anger causing Qi rebellion inevitably involves heat-fire rising upwards. It is appropriate to use herbs such as Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), and Shan Zhi (Gardeniae Fructus) to calm the Liver, and the disease will heal itself. To solely administer warm and drying herbs would surely lead to the disadvantage of excessive bias. Moreover, this does not align with the ancient intention of suppressing anger and preserving Yin.
Hematemesis due to overexertion refers to what the Classics describe as injury to the collateral vessels due to excessive physical effort. Generally, the blood within the collateral vessels flows up and down along the meridians without ceasing. If the damaged area of the collateral vessels allows blood to leak out, this occurs. In such cases, one must harmonize and nourish the Qi and Blood, adjust carefully and peacefully, so that the damaged parts may recover completely, and the circulation of blood vessels returns to normal. This is referred to as "resting those who are fatigued." These conditions do not yet involve the Zang-Fu organs; if the constitution is firm and solid, recovery is still possible. However, if one fails to adhere to this and indulges in desires contrary to reason, causing the repaired collateral vessels to be damaged again, there will be no hope for survival.
Fa Hui San (Hair Ash Powder)
Luan Fa (Human Hair, burnt to ash).
Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with rice vinegar soup. It can also treat hematuria in children.
To treat continuous hematemesis.
Take the patient's own hair, bake dry in a porcelain pot, grind into powder. Take 1.2 qian per dose, mixed with decoction of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) to stop bleeding immediately.
Those who expectorate pink phlegm-saliva have suffered damage to the Lung collaterals with blood seepage. The treatment is to decoct fresh lotus root, white glutinous rice, and red dates, and take frequently. After a long time, it will heal spontaneously. This prescription was taught by Chi Weizhi of the Plain White Banner, and its efficacy is excellent.
