(Most cases are primarily due to Phlegm.)
Severe pain is mostly caused by Fire. There are also cases suitable for emesis therapy and cases suitable for purgation therapy.
Qingkong Gao (Clearing the Vault Paste) treats various types of headache, but does not treat headaches caused by Blood deficiency.
Headaches caused by Blood deficiency, where pain attacks upward from the outer corner of the eye, must be treated with Chuanxiong Danggui Tang (Ligusticum and Angelica Decoction).
Ancient formulas include "saliva-chasing medicines," originating from Li Dongyuan's *Shixiao Fang* (Trial-Efficacy Formulas).
Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (each stir-fried, 1 liang), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (7 qian), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (2 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1.5 liang, honey-fried), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (3 liang, scrape off the yellow skin, half crushed raw, half wine-stir-fried).
Grind the above into powder; take 2 qianbi per dose. Add a little tea to a warm teacup, mix with hot water to form a paste, apply inside the mouth, and swallow with a small amount of warm water. Take before bedtime.
When Phlegm is complicated by Qi stagnation or Deficient Fire, treatment focuses on resolving Phlegm. Combine with Qi-tonifying herbs and Fire-descending herbs.
If attributed to Phlegm, without Phlegm, dizziness cannot occur.
If attributed to Fire, Phlegm moves due to Fire agitation. There are also cases of Damp-Phlegm, and cases of excessive Fire presenting with a rapid pulse on the left hand, indicating Heat. A choppy pulse indicates fixed blood stasis.
A full pulse on the right hand indicates Phlegm accumulation. A large pulse indicates a chronic illness.
(Fire agitation causes Phlegm to rise.)
Erchen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) added with Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), and Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) disperses Wind and removes Dampness. Alternatively, using agents that disperse Wind and remove Dampness is acceptable.
In the past, an old woman suffered from red and white leukorrhea for one and a half years, accompanied by dizziness, unable to sit or stand for long periods, finding relief only in sleep. By specifically treating the leukorrhea to cure it, her dizziness naturally resolved.
Wind-Heat Phlegm is treated as Wind-Phlegm, resembling gout symptoms. Use Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Jiu Huangqin (Wine-processed Scutellariae Radix) powder, mixed with tea and taken orally.
Another formula: Chuan Wutou (Aconiti Radix Preparata) and Cao Wutou (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Preparata) serve as the sovereign drugs, soaked and washed in child's urine, stir-fried to remove toxicity, assisted by Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).
Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) and Jueyin (Terminal Yin) channels have excessive Heat, all belonging to Heat syndrome; tinnitus is a manifestation of this.
Dai Yun stated: There are also cases caused by Qi blockage, which are also related to Heat. In cases of Qi blockage, there is no tinnitus.
Bimazi (Ricini Semen) (49 seeds), Zaorou (Ziziphi Jujubae Mesocarp) (10 dates).
Mix the above with human milk, pound into a paste, dry slightly on stone, roll into pills the size of paulownia seeds, wrap in cotton, and insert into the ear.
Another formula: Insert mouse gallbladder bile into the ear, which is even better. It also resolves Phlegm and disperses Wind-Heat.
After a major illness, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) must be used to descend Fire.
For deafness caused by Yin deficiency with Fire agitation, use the same method as above.
