Head
From the anterior hairline to the posterior hairline is measured as twelve segments, equal to one chi and two cun. If the anterior hairline is unclear, take three cun vertically upward from the glabella (midpoint between eyebrows). If the posterior hairline is unclear, take three cun vertically upward from the Dazhui acupoint. If both hairlines are unclear, measure it as one chi and eight cun. The longitudinal measurement of the head follows this method. The distance from the inner canthus to the outer canthus is one cun. The positioning of horizontal acupoints on the head follows this horizontal cun method.
The distance from Shenting (GV24) to Qucha (BL7), from Qucha (BL7) to Benshen (GB13), and from Benshen (GB13) to Touwei (ST8) is each one cun and half. From Shenting (GV24) to Touwei (ST8), the total is four cun and half.
Back
From the Dazhui acupoint to the Changqiang acupoint (GV1) at the coccyx, there are twenty-one vertebral segments in total, calculated as three chi. This is why it is said that the human body is three chi tall.
For the upper seven vertebrae, each segment is one cun, four fen, and one li, totaling nine cun, eight fen, and seven li. For the middle seven vertebrae, each segment is one cun, six fen, and one li, totaling one chi, one cun, two fen, and seven li. For the lower seven vertebrae, each segment is one cun, two fen, and six li, totaling eight cun, eight fen, and two li.
The second row of acupoints is located one cun and half on each side of the spine. Excluding the width of the spine (one cun), the total is calculated as four cun, distributed on both sides.
The third row of acupoints is located three cun on each side of the spine. Excluding the width of the spine (one cun), the total is calculated as seven cun, distributed on both sides.
Abdomen
The horizontal measurement of the chest and abdomen is based on the horizontal distance between the nipples, which is calculated as eight cun. The positioning of horizontal acupoints in the chest and abdomen strictly follows the above method. For longitudinal positioning, measure along the midline: from the lower end of the xiphoid process (heart shield bone) to the center of the umbilicus, the total is calculated as eight cun. For individuals without a distinct xiphoid process, measure from the junction of the sternum and xiphoid process (qi gu) to the center of the umbilicus, totaling nine cun. From the umbilicus to the pubic symphysis (hairline transverse bone), the measurement is five cun. From Tiantu (CV22) to Shanzhong (CV17), the measurement is eight cun. Moving down one cun and six fen from Shanzhong reaches Zhongting (CV16). Measuring up from Tiantu and down to Zhongting involves these calculations... (The original text here seems to have a formatting break or implies the relationship between Tiantu, Shanzhong, and Zhongting).
The horizontal measurements of the hands, feet, and back all use the Middle Finger Same-Length Cun method.
\Middle Finger Same-Length Cun Diagram\pG-G6.bmp\
For males, use the left hand; for females, use the right hand. The distance between the two transverse crease heads on the inner side of the second joint of the middle finger is one cun. When measuring, one may use the center of a rice grain or a thin bamboo strip. The standard is that the measuring tool should be easy to break and not stretch or shrink. If a rope is used, it is inconvenient due to stretching and shrinking, leading to inaccuracies.
