The "Zhen Ai" (Shaking Dust) technique involves needling the Exterior Meridians to eliminate Yang-pathogenic factors. When Yin Qi rebels severely, filling the chest, causing distress and shoulder-lifting respiration; or when Grand Qi rebels upward, resulting in wheezing with sound, restlessness in sitting or lying positions, aversion to smoke and dust, throat obstruction preventing breathing, one should select Tianrong (SI 17). For cough with rebellious Qi accompanied by severe chest and hypochondriac pain, select Lianquan (CV 23). When needling Tianrong, do not exceed a duration of "one li" (a very short time); when needling Lianquan, stop bloodletting once the blood color changes from dark to bright red.
The "Fa Meng" (Awakening the Deaf/Blind) technique applies to conditions where hearing is lost and vision is obscured. One needles the Shu-stream points of the Fu-organs to eliminate Fu-organ diseases. This specific needling must be performed at midday, targeting Tinggong (SI 19). The needle insertion must accurately correspond to the area of the pupil, allowing sound to be heard in the ear; this represents the transmission of the point's Qi. To treat pathogenic factors, firmly press both nostrils with the hand and prompt the patient to vocalize quickly; the needle sensation will resonate with the voice.
The "Qu Zhua" (Removing Claws) technique involves needling joints and their collateral vessels. The limb meridians connecting to the waist and spine constitute the major joints of the body. The limb meridians act as the conduits for bodily movement. The penis and scrotum are the mechanisms within the body, external manifestations of Yin Essence, and pathways for Jin-Ye (Body Fluids). If dietary habits are irregular and emotions like joy and anger are unregulated, Jin-Ye may overflow internally and accumulate downward in the testes. Obstruction in the blood channels causes the testes to enlarge progressively without cessation, leading to difficulty in bending and stretching, and inability to walk normally. This condition involves pathological accumulation of water-dampness. The pathology neither ascends nor descends clearly. Treatment with Bian stones (lithotherapy) reveals morphological changes that cannot be hidden. Patients often cannot cover themselves or manage clothing changes because it requires needling various odd-acupoints on all Yang meridians, which have no fixed locations. This pattern arises from Excess Yang Qi and Deficient Yin Qi. Deficiency of Yin Qi generates internal heat, while excess Yang Qi generates external heat. The struggle between internal and external heat feels hotter than holding charcoal in one's bosom; the patient fears silk touching the skin, even avoiding bedsheets. With closed pores (Cou-Li), sweat does not occur. The tongue becomes scorched, lips parched, throat dry, and appetite loses discrimination for food quality. At this stage, select Tianfu (LU 3) and Dazhu (BL 11), and also needling Zhonglüshu (BL 27) to clear internal heat, while tonifying the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian to arrest sweating. As heat dissipates and sweat decreases, recovery is faster than with the "Che Yi" (Removing Clothes) technique.
The "Jie Huo" (Resolving Confusion) technique refers to fully understanding how to harmonize Yin and Yang, using sedation for excess and tonification for deficiency to shift the imbalance. When severe Wind pathogens invade the body, causing uneven blood vessel distribution, deficiency in some areas and excess in others, leading to loss of balance, tilting, collapsing, disorientation regarding directions, erratic movements up and down, and reversal of states, the confusion is worse than mere bewilderment. One must sedate the excess and tonify the deficiency to restore Yin-Yang equilibrium. Employing such needling methods cures diseases faster than resolving confusion.
