Whenever moxibustion is completed and the fire is extinguished, immediately wash the area surrounding the moxa blister with a warm decoction of red-skin green onions and mint. This allows the pathogenic wind to be expelled from the wound and ensures the smooth flow of the meridians. If the wound is ulcerated, add Coriandri Fructus (Husu, 胡荽) to the decoction. If the pain in the wound is unbearable and there is no improvement after a long time, add Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, 黄连) to the decoction for miraculous efficacy.
Zisheng (Chen Ziming) stated: For dressing moxa blisters, use willow catkins in spring, bamboo membrane in summer, new cotton wool in autumn, and fine white hair from rabbit bellies in winter; hair from cat bellies is even better. Modern medicinal preparations are particularly effective.
Note: Using willow catkins, bamboo membrane, or rabbit/cat hair to dress wounds may cause dryness and pain. Furthermore, Taiyi Ointment and Shanying Ointment are often not indicated for the specific condition and are therefore unsuitable. Currently, it is best to use Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷), Boswelliae Resina (Ruxiang, 乳香), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归), and Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎), frying them separately in sesame oil to make an ointment for application, which is the key method.
The *Qianjin Fang* states: For newborn infants who are healthy and free of disease, one must strictly avoid reverse acupuncture/moxibustion (prophylactic needling/moxa before illness). If reverse acupuncture/moxibustion is performed, the infant will endure pain, disturbing the five zang organs, and may develop epilepsy due to fright. In the He-Luo region where the climate is cold, tendon spasms occur, requiring bloodletting under the tongue and moxibustion on the cheeks to prevent trismus. In the Wu-Shu regions where the climate is warm, such diseases do not exist. Since ancient prescriptions have been transmitted, modern practitioners fail to account for the differences between northern and southern climates and apply these prescriptions indiscriminately, thereby harming many infants. Therefore, rural children, left to their natural course, generally avoid premature death.
The *Qianjin Fang* states: Moxibustion should only be performed after noon, when yin qi has not yet arrived, ensuring that moxibustion is effective. Before noon, at dawn, the grain qi is deficient, and moxibustion can induce mania and dizziness. One should wait for clear weather before proceeding, unless it is an urgent emergency.
Note: At solar noon, qi enters the Heart Meridian; during the Wei hour (1-3 PM), it enters the Small Intestine Meridian. At these times, only points such as Jiquan (HT1), Qingling (HT8), Shaohai (HT3), Lingdao (HT4), Tongli (HT5), Shenmen (HT7), and Shaofu (HT8) on the Heart Meridian can be moxed. The statement in the *Qianjin Fang* regarding "moxibustion after noon" is likely not the authentic teaching of Sun Simiao.
Zisheng (Chen Ziming) stated: After moxibustion, avoid consuming pork, fish, hot noodles, raw wine, and foods that generate wind or are cold. Chicken meat is considered most toxic, and sexual exertion is especially contraindicated.
Note: After moxibustion, one should maintain a bland diet to harmonize stomach qi and promote the smooth circulation of qi and blood, allowing diseases to be expelled by the heat of the mugwort. Consuming rich flavors or becoming intoxicated will disrupt qi and blood. This principle must be thoroughly understood; it applies not only to acupuncture and moxibustion but to all medical treatments.
