When performing acupuncture, one must clearly understand the taboos of "Blood Taboo" (Xue Ji) and "Sacrum God" (Kao Shen). In the first lunar month, the taboo is on Chou days; in the second month, on Yin days; in the third month, on Wei days. In the fourth month, on Shen days; in the fifth month, on Mao days; in the sixth month, on You days. In the seventh month, on Chen days; in the eighth month, on Xu days; in the ninth month, on Si days. In the tenth month, on Hai days; in the eleventh month, on Wu days; in the twelfth month, one must additionally avoid the "Daily Closure" (Ri Bi).
On the 1st, 11th, and 21st days of the month, it is taboo to needle the big toe of the foot, the nasal bridge, and the little finger of the hand. On the 12th, 22nd, and [implied other] days, it is taboo at the lateral malleolus, hairline, and lateral malleolus positions. On the 3rd, 13th, and 23rd days, it is taboo at the thigh root... [text missing] ... wrist. The location of the Sacrum God is determined by the heel. The Kun trigram position corresponds to the medial and lateral malleoli, which sages have preserved as taboos. The Zhen trigram position corresponds to the teeth, which must be remembered distinctly. The Xun trigram position corresponds to the nipple. The Central Palace position corresponds to the shoulder bone connecting to the sacrum. As a physician, one must thoroughly master the methods of the Sacrum God taboos; then, facing myriad diseases, one need not worry about difficulties arising from violating these prohibitions.
At Lichun (Start of Spring), calculations begin from the Gen trigram position; Tianliu days are to be avoided. On Wuyin and Jichou days, the right foot is forbidden for needling. At Chunfen (Spring Equinox), Cangmen acupoint on the left hypochondrium (Zhen trigram position); if Yimao day appears, it is considered an enemy (taboo). At Lixia (Start of Summer), Wuchen and Jisi days at the Xun trigram position are to be avoided. For the five zang organs, six fu organs, and umbilical abdomen, the days indicated by the Zhaoyao star, specifically Wu and Ji days belonging to the Central Plains, are taboos. When treating ulcers and carbuncles, one must avoid these heavenly taboos; if one violates them, the disease will be difficult to cure.
Canzhu (BL2) and Sikong (extra point) primarily treat headache; suitable for both lateral and frontal headaches, needle towards this point. Additionally, use Dadu (SP2) to drain moving qi; Fengchi (GB20) is needled to a depth of 0.3 cun. Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) are first needled using the draining method... then needle Dadu (SP2) to treat eye pain. Within Taiyuan (LU9), perform needling; for toothache, needle Lvxi (KI6) to a depth of 0.3 cun. For dental pain, clarify based on the fingers mentioned previously. Further deduce Dadu (SP2): treat the left side with the right, and the right side with the left, meeting mutually, responding carefully. Tinghui (GB2) combined with Tinggong (SI19), needle 0.7 cun and drain to treat deafness in the ear. Ermen (TE21) is drained by approximately 0.3 cun; additionally, moxa Tinggong (SI19) for seven moxibustion cones. Within the Large Intestine meridian, perform draining needling; Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) are needled to 0.7 cun. If the physician understands this principle, efficacy will be seen immediately upon needling. For pain in the shoulder and back, Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) are needled to a depth of 0.7 cun. If not cured, add Zecui (PC3) to a depth of 1 cun. Then sequentially needle Sanjian (LI3). Insert each needle 0.7 cun into the acupoints; Shaoshang (LU11) and the two fu organs puncture the Heart meridian... The depth within the acupoints follows the method. At that time, eliminate the disease, treating both meridians. From the throat down to the umbilicus, within the stomach and epigastrium, myriad diseases are critical. When heart qi pain occurs, the chest feels knotted and hard; in cold damage, vomiting and hiccups accompany stagnant saliva. Needle Lieque (LU7) to 0.3 cun; drain 0.3 cun reaching Fengchi (GB20). Between the second fingers, Sanjian (LI3) and Zusanli (ST36); Zhongchong (PC9) is also needled to 0.5 cun according to the rule. When sweating is difficult to induce, needle Wangu (SI4); know that 0.5 cun draining is required. Yuji (LU10), Jingqu (LU8), and Tongli (HT5): drain 0.1 cun to induce profuse sweating. Between the second fingers, Sanjian (LI3) and Zusanli (ST36); the thumb is needled 0.5 cun appropriately. If sweat reaches and permeates the whole body, one who understands this is a good physician. For weakness in the four limbs due to evil wind, dry eyes difficult to open, and attacks by myriad diseases: spirit is dull, fatigue, and muteness; Fengchi (GB20) and Hegu (LI4) are used to unblock with needles. Afterward, drain the Sanjian points on both hands; combine with Zusanli (ST36) and Taichong (LR3). Insert each needle 0.5 cun into the acupoints; following Ying-Sui principles yields divine efficacy. Fengchi (GB20) is located among the fingers of the hands and feet; hemiplegia on the right is called Pianfeng, while on the left it is Tan. Needle each 0.5 cun and drain subsequently; additionally moxa seven cones for bodily peace. Zusanli (ST36) and Yinjiao (SP8) perform qi-draining methods; measure 1.3 cun according to the condition. Add thirty-seven moxa cones to each acupoint; naturally, paralysis is instantly relieved. For elbow pain, needle Quchi (LI11); Jingqu (LU8) and Hegu (LI4) are suitable together. Needle the two acupoints to 0.5 cun; malaria entangling the body will depart. If not cured, add Sanjian (LI3); do not worry about needling to a depth of 0.5 cun. Additionally, for qi pain with aversion to cold and fever, do not delay needling Jianshi (PC5). For leg, hip, and lower back pain attacking with stagnation, exhaust the Huagu (GB29) acupoint to 0.7 cun. Further needle Fengshi (GB31) and Zusanli (ST36); insert 1.3 cun for tonification and draining equally. Additionally, drain Yinjiao (SP8) to 1 cun; still needle Xingjian (LR2) to 0.5 cun. Advancing and retreating with rigidity and softness follows respiration; removing disease requires skillful twisting like snapping fingers. For elbow and knee pain, needle Quchi (LI11); inserting the needle 1 cun is appropriate. Treat the left disease by needling the right, and the right disease by needling the left; based on this, draining qi by 0.3 cun is miraculous. For knee pain, needle Dubi (ST35) to 3 cun; Zusanli (ST36) and Yinjiao (SP8) require seven treatments. If one can carefully seek its principle, the power to rob away disease lies in a moment.
