(Ming Dynasty text states: Treats water disease with abdominal swelling, periumbilical pain, Qi rushing to the chest causing dyspnea. Zhen Quan states: Mainly treats water qi edema, tympanites, borborygmus sounding like thunder, and Qi frequently rushing up to the heart.) (*Tongren* text seen in Tympanites entry) Qugu (CV2) treats water disease with distension and fullness. (Lower section) For pediatric water qi, swelling of all four limbs, and abdominal enlargement, moxibustion at Fen Shui for three Zhuang. Fuliou (KI7) treats edema of the four limbs. (*Tongren* text seen in Tympanites entry)
For edema, only Shuigou (GV26) should be needled. If other points are needled, death will occur once the water is exhausted. This is the warning from *Mingtang* and *Tongren*. Quack doctors often needle Fen Shui (CV9) for patients, killing many. If other points are needled, there are cases of recovery, but these are merely lucky exceptions and should not be taken as standard practice. Alternatively, using herbs, Yuyuliang (Hematitum) is the primary first choice. (See *Jixiao Fang*). I have repeatedly seen people taking it with verified efficacy, so I record it here. However, moxibustion at Fen Shui (CV9) is the most crucial point. A country doctor treated Mr. Li for edema with herbal medicine for a long time without effect. Out of gratitude for his hospitality, one day he suddenly performed moxibustion on Fen Shui (CV9) and Qihai (CV6). The next morning, his face looked emaciated as if shaved. Indeed, Fen Shui (CV9) can treat edema. *Mingtang* originally stated that for water disease, moxibustion is highly effective, likely because this point can separate and drain water, preventing its reckless flow. It is just unknown whether *Mingtang*'s mention of needling four fen deep refers to treating other diseases requiring that depth.
For edema caused by various diseases, moxibustion at Shenshu (BL23) for one hundred Zhuang. Weicang (BL50) according to age. For edema, needle Xiangu (ST41) according to age. For edema spreading up and down, moxibustion at Yinjiao (CV13) for one hundred Zhuang. For edema with great abdominal swelling, moxibustion at Yinshi (ST32) according to age. For fullness of the philtrum, lip swelling, and severe water edema, moxibustion at Shenque (CV8) and Shimen (CV5) for one hundred Zhuang each. For wind-water, moxibustion at Shanglian (EX-LE6) according to age. For edema preventing lying down, moxibustion at Yinlingquan (SP9) for one hundred Zhuang. For stone water, moxibustion at Ranggu (KI2), Qichong (ST30), Siman (CV4), and Zhangmen (LR13). Fen Shui (CV9) mainly treats edema, abdominal fullness, inability to eat, and hardness. Moxibustion seven times daily up to four hundred times is allowed. Needling is contraindicated; needling leads to death when water is exhausted. For water disease, continue moxibustion until recovery. (From *Qianjin Yifang*)
