Weizhong (BL40) treats weakness and lack of strength in the legs. Wind-damp Bi syndrome. Tendon stiffness. Hemiplegia. Zusanli (ST36) treats leg weakness. Chengshan (BL57) treats weakness and lack of strength in the legs. Heaviness in the feet. Hemiplegia due to wind affecting one side. Weizhong (BL40) treats weakness and lack of strength in the legs. Heaviness in the lower back and buttocks. Quchi (LI11) tendon stiffness. Hemiplegia.
A person who previously suffered from weak legs and emaciation later moxibusted Zusanli (ST36) and Jiexu (GB39), and his legs returned to normal. This further confirms that what Master Huang stated in his Acupuncture and Moxibustion Chart—that Jiexu (GB39) is miraculous for treating foot diseases—is indeed credible. An official colleague, suffering from swollen feet, moxibusted Chengshan (BL57). One acupoint's sore dried up quickly, while the other took months to heal. The reason is unknown. Was it perhaps due to improper care? The following single-prescription verse states: For wind-toxin causing weak and bi-affected legs, use Jianjing (GB21) and Dazhui (GV14). Fengshi (GB31) and Zusanli (ST36); hundred burns are sufficient without doubt.
Qianjin Fang lists eight acupoints for moxibustion to treat leg weakness. If the disease is in one leg, moxa only that leg; if both legs are diseased, moxa both legs. Generally, for all cases of leg weakness, both legs should be moxibusted. (See section on foot diseases.) If not all points can be treated, first moxa Fengshi (GB31), Dubi (ST35), Zusanli (ST36), and Jiexu (GB39), which is also effective. If ineffective, then follow the method described above. (However, do not over-moxa Jianjing (GB21).)
Yangqiao (BL59) treats Kidney Qi deficiency associated with Hongjiaojiao (Jamaica Foot/Grain Attack). Shang Kunlun (BL60) treats swelling and pain caused by bad blood and wind qi. Swollen feet. Chengshan (BL57) treats knee swelling in Hongjiaojiao. (See section on waist and foot diseases.) Xiaochangshu (BL28) treats swollen feet. Shortness of breath. Poor appetite. (Ming commentary: Anorexia, irritability, heat, and pain.) RanGu (KI2) treats swelling of the dorsum of the foot. Inability to walk on the ground.
My mother was chronically ill. In mid-summer, her feet suddenly swelled. Old tradition says not to treat the feet in summer, so I dared not use moxa. I casually placed a needle in the fire until hot and punctured the Zusanli (ST36) acupoint. A slight amount of blood appeared. I repeated this several times. The swelling disappeared as if lost. I have always suffered from swollen feet. Seeing this miraculous effect, I also used a red-hot needle. The next day, my swelling also subsided. How rapid! Later, I often moxibusted this point. For treating swollen feet, one should first moxa Zusanli (ST36), followed by Yangqiao (BL59) and other acupoints. Additionally, I suffered from interdigital erosion due to Hongjiaojiao (Jamaica Foot/Grain Attack). Each time, applying tea powder resolved it. Later, it eroded again and swelled. Tea powder was ineffective. The swelling gradually spread to the dorsum of the foot. I attributed it to Hongjiaojiao (Jamaica Foot/Grain Attack) and worried privately. I could only walk with a cane. A medicine seller saw me and said, "You can take dust from under the bed mat and apply it." Following his advice, I applied it and healed. This item is worthless, yet it can cure a distressing illness. How can it be ignored?
