There are twenty-four acupoints in total.
Huiyin (CV-1) is located at the midpoint between the anterior orifice (genitals) and the posterior orifice (anus). Needle depth: 2 cun; retain needle for three breaths; moxibustion: 3 cones. Daily prohibition of needling applies, except for sudden death cases where it can be needled to a depth of 1 cun using the tonification method. For drowning victims, have someone carry them upside down to remove water, then use needle tonification; survival is indicated by the discharge of urine and feces. Needling is prohibited in other cases.
Indications: Sweating of the yin region, various diseases of the vagina, mutual pulling pain between the anterior and posterior orifices, inability to pass stool and urine, chronic anal diseases, rectal prolapse with hemorrhoids. In men, cold qi from the yin rushing up to the heart/chest; in women, dysmenorrhea due to cold in the vaginal opening leading to amenorrhea. ○ Another transmission records treatment for postpartum coma and loss of consciousness in women.
Qugu (CV-2) is located above the pubic bone, 1 cun below Zhongji (CV-3), in the depression at the edge of the pubic hair, where arterial pulsation can be felt. Needle depth: 1.5 cun; retain needle for seven breaths; moxibustion: 3 cones. Daily needling depth can be 0.8 cun; moxibustion: 7 cones up to 49 cones.
Indications: Urinary distension, edema, painful and difficult urination (dysuria), hematuria, strangury, hernia, lower abdominal pain, seminal emission, deficiency-cold syndrome. In women, red and white leukorrhea. ○ For edema and abdominal distension, moxibustion of 100 cones is recommended, as recorded in *Qianjin Fang*.
Zhongji (CV-3) is located 4 cun below the umbilicus. Needle depth: 0.8 cun; retain needle for ten breaths; moxibustion: 3 cones. Daily moxibustion can range from 100 to 300 cones. Moxibustion is prohibited during pregnancy. ○
Indications: Deficiency and exhaustion of yang qi, frequent upward rush of cold qi to the heart/chest, corpse-like fainting (shijue), mental confusion, seminal emission, infertility, masses in the abdomen and below the umbilicus, edema, running piglet qi (ben tun), hernia and masses, five types of strangury, dark and difficult urination.
In women, deficiency-cold of the lower yuan, metrorrhagia, turbid leukorrhea, retention of lochia after childbirth, retained placenta, amenorrhea, blood stasis forming masses, swelling and pain of the cervix, bladder inversion leading to urinary retention. ○ For blood stasis forming masses, irregular menstruation, persistent postpartum lochia, pain from masses below the umbilicus, and unstoppable metrorrhagia, moxibustion of 14 cones is recommended (*Shennong Jing*). Combined with Qihai (CV-6), Zhongji (CV-3), and Zusanli (ST-36) for lower abdominal disorders (*Taiyi Ge*). If conception fails or there is habitual miscarriage, moxibustion of Yuquan (KI-12? Note: Text says Yuquan, likely referring to a specific point or typo for another point, but translated as written) 50 cones, repeated three times. This point is also crucial for sterilization in women. It treats abdominal distension and hard edema with 100 cones. It treats lower back pain, difficult urination, and bladder inversion with 7 cones (*Qianjin Fang*).
Guanyuan (CV-4) is located 3 cun below the umbilicus. Needle depth: 0.8 cun; retain needle for seven breaths; moxibustion: 7 cones. *Jiayi Jing* records a depth of 2 cun; *Qifu Lun Zhu* records 1.2 cun. Daily moxibustion can range from 100 to 300 cones. ○ *Qianjin Fang* states that needling this point in women leads to infertility.
Indications: Accumulated cold, various deficiencies, colic below the umbilicus radiating to the yin, cold qi entering the abdomen, lower abdominal running piglet qi, nocturnal emissions, turbid leukorrhea, five types of strangury, seven types of hernia, hematuria, dark and difficult urination, dribbling, bladder inversion with anuria, leukorrhea, masses, amenorrhea, infertility, bleeding during pregnancy, persistent postpartum lochia, menstrual cessation due to blood-cold. ○ Another view suggests that all conditions of accumulated cold and deficiency are suitable for moxibustion here, but needling is prohibited in pregnancy as it causes abortion. If abortion does not occur, needling Kunlun (BL-60) will cause immediate expulsion. ○ Another view indicates treatment for yin-pattern cold damage, polyuria, and red/white leukorrhea in women, requiring extensive moxibustion (hundreds to thousands of cones), often combined with Zusanli (ST-36), hence the saying: "To keep the Dantian safe, Zusanli must not be neglected." ○ For abdominal masses causing pain, moxibustion of 21 cones is recommended (*Shennong Jing*); for hernias/masses, 50 cones; for chronic diarrhea unresponsive to other treatments, 300 cones divided over ten days. It also treats cold diarrhea, abdominal pain, and pain radiating to the yin. Tianjing (SI-10) is moxibusted for 100 cones. Huoluan (cholera) is treated with 21 cones. Qi strangury, stone strangury, hernia, and thirty-six types of diseases below the umbilicus are treated with 50-100 cones. Infertility due to closed uterus is treated with 30 cones repeated three times (*Qianjin Fang*). Combined with Yongquan (KI-1) and Fenglong (ST-40) as a protocol for corpse-labor (chronic wasting disease). Combined with Daibao (SP-15) to treat kidney failure (*Yulong Fu*). Treats urinary incontinence. Combined with Zhaohai (KI-6), Yinjiao (CV-7), Ququan (LR-8), and Qihai (CV-6) with reducing method for severe hernia pain (*Xihong Fu*). For infertility, Yinjiao (CV-7) and Shiguan (KI-15) are selected (*Baizheng Fu*). ○ Another transmission treats postpartum blood-qiang pain and uterine infertility.
Shimen (CV-5) is located 2 cun below the umbilicus. Needle depth: 0.6 cun; retain needle for seven breaths; moxibustion: 5 cones. Daily moxibustion can range from 14 to 100 cones. Another view advises against excessive moxibustion as it damages vitality. Needling and moxibustion are prohibited in women, as doing so causes lifelong sterility.
Indications: Hard abdominal distension, edema, fullness, qi strangury, dark and difficult urination, lower abdominal pain, intractable diarrhea, alternating chills and fever, cough with rebellious qi, vomiting blood, acute hernia pain. Postpartum persistent lochia forming masses, metrorrhagia, leakage, hematuria. ○ Large intestine obstruction, qi stagnation causing hardness below the heart, moxibustion of 100 cones. Lower abdominal colic and intractable diarrhea/dysentery are treated by moxibustion of Dantian (Guanyuan CV-4) 100 cones, repeated three times. Hematuria is treated with age-based cone count. Edema and fullness in the middle jiao are treated with 100 cones (*Qianjin Fang*). Another transmission for inducing sterility needles 3 cones into the arterial pulse 2.3 cun below the umbilicus.
Qihai (CV-6) is located 1.5 cun below the umbilicus, in the depression. Needle depth: 0.8 cun; moxibustion: 5 cones. *Jiayi Jing* records a needle depth of 1.3 cun. Daily moxibustion is 100 cones. Moxibustion is prohibited during pregnancy.
Indications: Lower jiao deficiency-cold rushing to the chest/abdomen, intractable vomiting, yang deficiency with fear and insomnia, running piglet qi, seven types of hernia, masses in the small intestine/bladder resembling an inverted cup, cold qi below the umbilicus, impending death from yang collapse, yin-pattern cold damage, retraction of testes, cold limbs, dark and difficult urination, emaciation, turbid leukorrhea, irregular menstruation, persistent postpartum lochia, periumbilical pain, enuresis in children. ○ Another view treats sudden syncope with qi attacking the hypochondrium and epigastrium, feeling like death (running piglet qi), by soaking feet in hot water and moxibusting 100 cones. ○ This is Qihai; for any organ deficiency, lack of true qi, or chronic illness, moxibustion is appropriate. ○ Watery diarrhea and abdominal masses/emaciation in women are treated with 100 cones of Qihai, repeated three times (*Qianjin Fang*). Combined with Xuanji (CV-15) for wasting and wheezing (*Yulong Fu*). Five stranguries require simultaneous needling of Zusanli (ST-36); combined with Zhaohai (KI-6), Yinjiao (CV-7), Ququan (LR-8), and Guanyuan (CV-4) with reducing method for hernia pain (*Xihong Fu*). Sanyinjiao (SP-6) and Qihai (CV-6) treat turbid leukorrhea and chronic seminal emission (*Baizheng Fu*). Combined with Xuehai (SP-10) for five stranguries (*Lingguang Fu*). Another transmission treats intestinal qi pain, cold damage abdominal pain, abdominal distension, ascites, and jaundice, recommending frequent moxibustion in all seasons.
Yinjiao (CV-7) is located 1 cun below the umbilicus. Needle depth: 0.8 cun; moxibustion: 5 cones. Daily moxibustion is 100 cones. Moxibustion is prohibited during pregnancy.
Indications: Chong Mai disorders, pain rushing from the lower abdomen to the heart, inability to urinate, hernia pain, sweaty/yin itching, running piglet qi, stiffness of waist and knees, irregular menstruation, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, vaginal itching, persistent postpartum lochia, cold pain around the umbilicus. ○ Periumbilical cold pain is treated with 21 cones (*Shennong Jing*); constipation/dysuria with 3 cones; bladder inversion with age-based cones. Edema with qi rebellion is treated with 100 cones (*Qianjin Fang*). Combined with Zusanli (ST-36) and Shuifen (CV-9) for ascites (*Yulong Fu*). Combined with Zhaohai (KI-6), Ququan (LR-8), Guanyuan (CV-4), and Qihai (CV-6) with reducing method for hernia pain. Acute intestinal qi pain radiating to the umbilicus requires rapid reduction at this point and qi extraction from Yongquan (KI-1). Combined with Baihui (GV-20), Taichong (LR-3), and Zhaohai (KI-6) for throat disorders (*Xihong Fu*). Yinjiao and Yangbie stabilize blood晕 (*Biaoyou Fu*). Combined with Zusanli (ST-36) for cholera caused by evil qi. For infertility, Yinjiao (CV-7) and Shiguan (KI-15) are selected (*Baizheng Fu*). Another transmission treats wind-cold wandering pain and distension in the abdomen.
Shenque (CV-8) is located at the center of the umbilicus. Moxibustion: 3 cones. **Prohibited for needling**; needling causes malignant ulcers, pus/feces discharge, and untreatable death. One day's protocol: Fill the umbilicus with clean fried salt, cover with a thick slice of ginger, and moxibustate 500 cones. Sichuan pepper can substitute for salt.
Indications: Yin-pattern cold damage, stroke with loss of consciousness, deficiency-cold in the abdomen, intestinal borborygmus with intractable diarrhea, edema, ascites, infantile milk dysentery, wind-phlegm epilepsy, opisthotonos, rectal prolapse, and infertility due to uterine cold (moxibustion prevents miscarriage). ○ Most texts prohibit needling and do not recommend moxibustion, but *Tongren* states 100 cones are appropriate. Case: Xu Ping suffered stroke and lost consciousness; Tao Yuan moxibusted his umbilicus with 100 cones, reviving him, though he died months later. Zheng Jiu’s relative recovered from stroke after 100 cones and lived past eighty. Had Xu Ping received 300-500 cones, he might have lived longer. Thus, Shenque moxibustion should use fine salt, with higher doses being better. 300-500 cones cure disease and prolong life; low doses only provide temporary relief and risk recurrence. However, summer moxibustion is contraindicated as the spirit resides in the umbilicus. ○ Salt-filled umbilicus moxibustion (3 cones) treats strangury. Cholera is treated with 7 cones of salt-filled umbilicus moxibustion, also treating distension (*Qianjin Fang*).
Shuifen (CV-9) is located 1 cun above the umbilicus, 1 cun below Xiawan (CV-10). **Prohibited for needling and moxibustion** (Note: Text says "Jin Zhen Jiu" but lists "Wu Zhuang", implying a contradiction or specific context, usually interpreted as caution or specific technique). *Jiayi Jing* records needle depth of 1 cun. Moxibustion is prohibited during pregnancy.
Indications: Water diseases, hard yellow swollen abdomen like a drum, chest oppression, periumbilical pain, intestinal borborygmus, diarrhea, anuria, sunken fontanelle in infants. ○ For hard water-distension preventing eating, moxibustion is highly effective, ranging from 7 to 400 cones daily. **Needling is strictly prohibited**; if needled, water depletion leads to death. ○ Abdominal distension and edema are treated with 14-21 cones (*Shennong Jing*). Regurgitation/vomiting with 20 cones. Hard periumbilical pain with 100 cones. Cholera with muscle cramps entering the abdomen requires four people to hold limbs while moxibusting 4-5 cones, stopping when movement ceases, continuing to 14 cones (*Qianjin Fang*). Abdominal distension/diarrhea combined with Zusanli (ST-36) and Yingu (KI-10) promotes diuresis (*Taiyi Ge*). Combined with Yinjiao (CV-7) and Zusanli (ST-36) for ascites (*Yulong Fu*). Combined with Yinlingquan (SP-9) to eliminate edema filling the umbilicus (*Baizheng Fu*). Combined with Qihai (CV-6) for edema (*Xihong Fu*). Combined with Jianli (CV-11) for generalized swelling (*Tianxing Mijue*).

Indications: Cold qi causing hardness/pain above the umbilicus, abdominal distension, indigestion of cold foods, deficiency swelling, abdominal masses connected to the umbilicus, emaciation, poor appetite, regurgitation, dark urination. ○ Combined with Zhongwan (CV-12) for hard abdomen (*Lingguang Fu*). Combined with Xiangu (ST-43) to calm intestinal borborygmus (*Baizheng Fu*).
Jianli (CV-11) is 3 cun above the umbilicus, 1 cun below Zhongwan (CV-12). Needle depth: 0.5 cun; retain needle for ten breaths; moxibustion: 5 cones. One view prefers needling over moxibustion; especially contraindicated in pregnancy.
Indications: Abdominal distension, body swelling, heart pain, rebellious qi, intestinal borborygmus, vomiting, anorexia. ○ For cholera, borborygmus, and distension, needle 0.8 cun, reduce for five exhalations, withdraw quickly.
