Jixue (Extraordinary Acupoints) are not derived from the *Ling Shu* (Spiritual Pivot) and *Nei Jing* (Inner Canon), hence they are called Jixue.
**Method for locating Gaohuang (BL-43, Bladder 43):** This point treats various conditions caused by deficiency of Yang Qi, chronic cold due to deficiency, nocturnal emission, rebellious Qi with cough and counterflow, dysphagia, mania, confusion, forgetfulness, and errors in judgment. It is particularly effective for phlegm-fluid retention diseases. The patient should be instructed to sit flat on a bed, bend the knees up to the chest level, wrap both hands around the knees to open the scapulae away from the back, ensuring no movement. Press slightly below the fourth thoracic vertebra and slightly above the fifth thoracic vertebra with a finger, mark with ink. Draw a horizontal line with ink, approximately two Cun apart, located between the third and fourth ribs, inside the scapula, in the intercostal space, wide enough to accommodate one finger. Massage the surface of the muscles along the spine; in the gaps between bones and tendons, if the patient feels traction into the chest and numbness in the fingers, it is the true acupoint. After moxibustion, if there is a sensation of Qi stagnation, Moxibustion Qihai (CV-6, Conception Vessel 6) and Zusanli (ST-36, Stomach 36) can be performed to drain fire and strengthen the lower body. Moxibustion increases Yang Qi; therefore, one must exercise moderation and self-care, avoiding excessive sexual activity. (From *Rumen*) ○ Another method: Instruct the patient to cross their hands over their shoulders; this opens the scapulae, making the acupoint immediately visible. Palpate three Cun lateral to both sides below the fourth thoracic vertebra, between the third and fourth ribs; soreness upon pressure indicates the acupoint. During moxibustion, keep hands crossed over shoulders and do not lower them. One hundred Zhu of moxa cones are ideal. (From *Huichun*)
**Method for locating Hunmen:** This treats young patients with dual deficiency of Yin and Yang, sallow complexion, emaciation, loss of taste, cough, nocturnal emission, tidal fever, night sweats, pulling pain in the chest, heart, and back, as well as Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries. First, take a wax cord, starting from the big toe of the patient's left foot (for males) or right foot (for females), measure along the sole straight up to the large transverse crease at the knee/wrist junction, and cut. Next, have the patient untie their hair, divide it evenly to both sides, stand upright, and take the front part of the cord from the tip of the nose, guide it upwards along the midline of the head, down behind the neck against the skin, following the spine downwards. Mark the end of the cord with ink (this is not the moxa point). Take a rice straw, place it across the mouth from corner to corner, hook the center of the straw up to the root of the nose, forming a "human" shape, and cut at the corners of the mouth. Straighten this straw and place it horizontally on the previously marked ink spot, measuring from the center to the ends without being higher or lower than the straw's ends. Mark with ink; this is the moxa point. Begin with seven Zhu, accumulating up to one hundred Zhu. Initially, only these two points are moxa-ed. (From *Rumen*) ○ Another method for treating consumptive disease with emaciation: Have the patient stand upright. Use a grass stalk to measure from the middle fingertip of the left foot (male) or right foot (female), across the sole, upwards to the popliteal crease, and cut. Then, measure from the tip of the nose, along the midline of the head (parting the hair to touch the skin) down to the spine, marking the end with ink. Take another grass stalk, have the patient close their mouth naturally to measure width, and cut. Place this grass stalk horizontally on the ink mark, fold it, and measure to the ends to locate the acupoint. For moxibustion, add one Zhu per year of age (e.g., 31 Zhu for a 30-year-old). Accumulated efficacy is good. (From *Zisheng*) ○ This method is similar to the previous one. (From *Leiju*)
**Method for locating Sihua Points:** The indications are the same as Hunmen. Have the patient stand upright, slightly retract the arms. Take a wax cord, wrap around the neck forward to the posterior aspect of the Adam's apple and Dazhu (BL-11, Bladder 11), marking both spots with ink. Hang the cord forward double until it aligns with Jiwei (CV-15, Conception Vessel 15), then cut. Flip the cord backward, placing the original Dazhu ink mark above the Adam's apple ink mark, and the Adam's apple ink mark above the Dazhu bone mark. From the midline of the back, let the double ends of the cord hang down against the skin to the ends, marking with ink (not the moxa point). Take a rice straw, have the patient close their mouth without moving the throat, measure horizontally across the mouth corners, and cut. Fold this straw at the back ink mark, measure horizontally to the ends, and mark (this is the moxa point). Also measure vertically along the spine and mark (this is the moxa point). Begin with seven Zhu, accumulating to one hundred Zhu. If the sore heals but the disease persists, repeat the previous method, hence "accumulating one hundred Zhu." However, only moxa the two points on the spine, and avoid excessive moxibustion. Three to five Zhu per session is appropriate; too much may cause harm. When moxa-ing these points, it is also advisable to moxa Zusanli (ST-36) to drain fire. (From *Rumen*) ○ Cui Zhiti's Sihua method: Measure the mouth gap with a rice straw, cut. Cut a square paper of the same length, make a small hole in the center. Take a long rice straw, step on it with the foot, measuring from the big toe to the third transverse crease, cut, and ring it around the Adam's apple. Let it hang down the back to see where the straw ends. Place the small-hole paper in the middle, dividing it into four flowers to cover the four corners for moxa application. ○ Another method: First, measure the mouth horizontally for length. Use this grass to measure vertically down from below the third thoracic vertebra on the back to the end of the grass, marking both ends with a pen. Then, use the length of the middle finger as a standard. Measure horizontally and vertically with the finger-length grass, marking the four corners with a grass loop. The points within the loop are the acupoints (those outside are not). Moxa up to 49 Zhu. (From *Zisheng*) ○ These moxa methods are suitable for Yang deficiency. Hua Tuo stated that for wind-cold-heat deficiency, those with pure deficiency should not be moxa-ed. However, medical texts state that for consumption and tuberculosis, early moxa-gaohuang and sihua is recommended when deficiency has not yet become severe. For those who are thin and weak with fire, even if moxa-ed, only Neiguan (PC-6, Pericardium 6) and Zusanli (ST-36) should be used to dissipate phlegm-fire. Early onset of Yin fire is not suitable for moxibustion. (From *Rumen*)
**Qizhuma (Riding Bamboo Horse) Moxibustion Method:** Specifically indicated for carbuncles, back sores, swelling, ulcers, scrofula, wind disorders, and all unnameable swellings. Moxibustion here drains Heart Fire. Start by measuring horizontally across the wrist of the male left or female right arm using a thin bamboo strip to the fleshy end of the middle finger, and cut. Have the patient remove upper and lower garments. Straddle a large bamboo pole, lifted slowly by two people, so the feet are about five Cun off the ground. Two other people should hold the sides to prevent shaking. Align the previously measured bamboo strip against the mark (not an acupoint). Compare this with the patient's own-body Cun bamboo strip, fold it in half (two Cun), and place it on the previous ink mark. Measure horizontally from the center, one Cun to each side; these are the moxa points. Moxa three...
