Five Excesses (Wu Lao) refer to five types of deficiency caused by overexertion. Seven Injuries (Qi Shang) refer to pathogenic invasion of the Heart and Kidney due to emotional factors such as worry, overthinking, sorrow, and fear, as well as insufficiency of the Five Zang organs leading to symptoms like flaccidity or spasticity, damp-bi syndrome, hemiplegia, numbness, and limb contracture.
Excess of pathogenic factors manifests as pain; deficiency of healthy Qi manifests as itching.
Deficiency consumption (Xu Lao) presents with emaciation, deafness, hematuria, turbid urine or seminal emission, pain in the genital region, and cold feet like ice. Treatment involves moxibustion on Kunlun (BL6), Shenshu (BL23) (seven moxa cones for adults), Zhaohai (KI6), and Jiegu (GB39). The human body has Four Seas: Qi Sea, Blood Sea (both referring to Zhaohai KI6), and Marrow Sea.
When visceral Qi is weak and exhausted, and True Qi is insufficient causing all kinds of Qi disorders, moxibustion can be applied to Qihai (CV6) with one hundred moxa cones. For dreams of sexual intercourse with seminal emission, Sanyinjiao (SP6) can be moxed with thirty-seven cones; after one hundred days, fifty more cones can be applied to prevent recurrent seminal emission.
For dream loss and seminal emission, Ququan (LR8) can be moxed with one hundred cones. Taichong (LR3), Zhaohai (KI6), Shenshu (BL23), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Guanyuan (CV4), Gaohuang (BL43), and Jinggong acupoint (also known as Zhishi BL52, located below the 14th thoracic vertebra, three and a half cun lateral to the midline on both sides) can each be moxed with seven cones.
Huanmen acupoint treats young people with deficiency of both Yin and Yang, emaciation, sallow complexion, loss of taste, cough, seminal emission, tidal fever, night sweats, pulling pain in the chest, heart, and back, and syndromes of Five Excesses and Seven Injuries. Moxibustion is effective.
Method for locating acupoints: Use a wax string or millet stalk. For males, use the left side; for females, the right side. Align the end of the string with the tip of the big toe, follow the sole of the foot along the center towards the popliteal crease, and cut. Let the patient untie their hair and part it evenly to expose the head seam down to the back of the head. Take one end of the previously measured foot string and press it against the tip of the nose, guiding it up along the midline of the head to the back of the head, then down along the skin to the spine. Mark the end of the string with ink (this is not an acupoint). Take another stalk, have the patient open their mouth naturally, measure horizontally across the corners of the mouth, cut, fold in half, and mark. Place this stalk on the marked point on the spine, lay it horizontally, and mark the ends. This is the acupoint. The number of moxa cones corresponds to age (one cone per year), or some say one hundred cones.
Parasites in the abdomen tormenting the person to death, spreading within the clan and causing harm, is characteristic of Lao Zhai (consumption tuberculosis). Moxibustion on Yaoyan acupoint can treat Lao Zhai; the specific method is recorded under other acupoints, also known as Yuxian moxibustion.
If the pulse is thready or imperceptible, puncture Fuliou (KI7) of the Foot-Shaoyin Meridian with a round-sharp needle, insert deeply, and wait for the return of Yang and the reappearance of the pulse before withdrawing the needle.
For deficiency consumption, hundred losses, seminal emission, and consumption syndromes, moxibustion can be applied to Jianjing (GB21), Dazhui (GV14), Gaohuang (BL43), Ganshu (BL18), Shenshu (BL23), Pishu (BL20), Zusanli (ST36), and Qihai (CV6).
Treatment for Lao Zhai:
First session, two points: Have the patient stand upright. Take a thin wax string, ensuring it is neither stretched nor shrunk. Align the end of the string with the tip of the big toe (left for males, right for females), follow the sole of the foot backwards to the popliteal crease, and cut. Untie the hair and part it to expose the seam from the top of the head to the nape. Have the patient sit upright. Press one end of the previously measured string against the tip of the nose, guide it up along the head seam to the nape, let it hang down along the skin to the midpoint of the spine, and mark the end with ink (this is not an acupoint). Alternatively, for women with unclear foot measurements due to binding, locate the right Huang acupoint, place the string end on it, extend the hand downwards to the tip of the middle finger, cut, and use; if male foot features are unclear, this method is also suitable. Have the patient slightly close the mouth. Take a short string, press one end at the left corner of the mouth, hook it upwards to the root of the nose, and diagonally down to the right corner of the mouth, forming a "human" character shape. Cut. Unfold the string, fold it in half, and mark. Press the ink mark onto the spine at the previously marked point, lay it horizontally left and right, ensure it is level, and mark the ends with circles. These are the two horizontal points of the second session. In total, four points from the second session are moxed simultaneously, starting with seven cones per point, increasing to fourteen, up to one hundred, or optimally one hundred fifty cones. When the moxibustion sores begin to develop, proceed to the next method to moxibust two more points.
Third session, two points: Take the short string used in the second session to measure the mouth width (forming a horizontal line), fold it in half, and mark. Press this mark onto the exact center of the spine point from the second session, placing it vertically. Mark the upper and lower ends of the string. These are the upper and lower points of Sihua (Four Flowers). The points obtained in this third session are called Sihua. Moxibustion is applied to these two points, one hundred cones each. In total, six points are treated over three sessions. Choose a Fire day for moxibustion. During the first hundred days, avoid heavy diet and sexual activity, maintain peace and quiet, and recuperate for one month. If the condition persists, re-moxibust the original acupoints.
