Deep Ice Shrimp Nebula refers to the formation of a nebula (corneal opacity) on the black pupil (cornea), shaped like an ice shrimp, hence the name "Ice Shrimp." This condition is largely similar to Fish Scale White Depression. It is generally caused by heat in the Liver Meridian, where pathogenic factors subtly affect the Wind Wheel (the cornea), causing the black pupil to appear blurred. Viscid ocular discharge accumulates in the lower areas of the nebula. There are intermittent episodes of redness, dryness, and tearing, with abundant discharge obscuring the pupil. A layer resembling mucus covers the pupil, appearing yellow or white, looking like a membrane obstruction; it reappears after wiping. If left untreated for a long time, it can damage vision, with symptoms recurring intermittently. The treatment method should employ the "Yin Two Yang Four" insufflation technique, administered once every two nights. As the condition slightly recedes, eye drops should be used. In the morning, decoct chrysanthemum, biota leaf, coptis rhizome, angelica sinensis root tip, and mulberry bark, and wash the eyes two to three times daily. Internally, administer Bo Yun Tui Yi San (Cloud-Pushing Cataract-Removing Powder).
Bo Yun Tui Yi San (Cloud-Pushing Cataract-Removing Powder)
Ingredients: Cornus officinalis fruit, mint (each 5 qian), ligusticum chuanxiong rhizome (1.5 liang), coptis rhizome, chrysanthemum flower, cicada slough (each 5 qian), trichosanthes root (raw, 3 qian), vitex fruit, glochidion flower, snake slough (each 5 qian), schizonepeta spike, angelica dahurica, ephedra stem, saposhnikovia root, licorice root (each 5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Form pills using refined honey, sized like cherries. Each liang of powder makes ten pills. Take two pills per dose, twice daily.
Adjunctive Decoctions for Specific Symptoms: For Qi Obstruction, take with Mu Xiang Tang (Costus Root Decoction). For chronic dim vision, take with Ju Hua Tang (Chrysanthemum Decoction). For lack of spirit in the eyes and reluctance to look, take with Dang Gui Tang (Angelica Sinensis Decoction). For women with blood syncope, take with Dang Gui Tang (Angelica Sinensis Decoction). For weak individuals, take with Shi Quan Da Bu Tang (Ten Significant Tonifying Decoction).
Jade Nebula arises when wind pathogens invade the brain, accumulating heat in the liver and diaphragm, causing intermittent pain. If neglected, long-term accumulation leads to blood stasis that does not dissipate, forming a white nebula that obscures the pupil, resembling jade in color, thus named "Jade Nebula Floating Over Pupil." Such conditions may progress or regress, present with redness or tearing, and have unstable flare-ups. Treatment: Use "Yin Three Yang Two" medicated powder for insufflation once. Tears will flow out carrying the medicine. Under these circumstances, the nebula membrane will gradually retract, becoming clear as if polished, removing all dust, and vision will surely recover. However, if the disease has persisted for years, showing no progression or regression, with no redness or pain, even with effective elixirs or sharp surgical needles, there is no place to apply treatment. At this stage, even the sacred efficacy of cloud-pushing cataract removal or medicinal therapy cannot be exerted. Even if the patient is a noble duke or prince, suffering from this ailment renders them disabled. Despite immense wealth and the finest physicians in the world, they cannot cure it.
Question: What causes eye nebulae that obscure the black pupil with a jade-like color?
Answer: This is due to liver wind attacking and invading the brain, with accumulated heat between the liver and diaphragm. Long-term, this leads to Kidney Deficiency, causing frequent heat or red pain in the eyes. Initially, there is swelling, redness, and red vessels penetrating the eye, gradually forming a white nebula. Early stages resemble broken rice grains; later, they form a large patch obscuring the black pupil, condensing into a jade-like color, named "Jade Nebula Obscuring Vision." Treatment should involve administering Xie Gan San (Liver-Draining Powder), Ming Mu Ju Hua San (Bright-Eye Chrysanthemum Powder), and Tong Ming Bu Shen Wan (Clear-Vision Kidney-Tonifying Pill).
