Membrane Entering the Water Wheel refers to liver heat accumulation, with pathogenic factors in the Lung Meridian; this is a manifestation of Metal overcoming Wood. Therefore, the iris (Huangren) occasionally develops white sores, which then recur. Day after day, month after month, a membrane gradually invades the pupil (Shuilui), which constitutes the root of the nebula. Like water meeting earth, abnormal changes occur, leading to persistent sores that accumulate over time, eventually becoming a major affliction known as "Membrane Entering the Water Wheel." There is discharge of fluid and pus, pain and stiffness making it difficult to open the eye; if the right side is affected, it transmits to the left, and vice versa. Treatment method: It is suitable to use medications for clearing vision, combined with scallion and mugwort, insufflated with alchemical pills, and administered decoctions or powders orally; there will be no ineffective cases. If the injury has persisted for a long time, without pain or tenderness, without tearing or redness, resembling a nail driven into wood, like flaws in jade, or black spots on tortoiseshell, it indicates that the iris and pupil have definitively turned white. Even if Huangdi, Qibo, Huanglong, and Bian Que were resurrected, they could not cure it.
Question: Why do sores or protrusions on the cornea (Fenglun) heal but turn into white nebulas that persist for a long time? Answer: This is due to Liver Wood deficiency and excessive Lung Metal qi. In the initial stage of this disease, there is pain and tearing; treatment should involve reducing blood stasis and purging Lung Metal, repairing the Liver and invigorating blood. For cases without pain or tearing presenting as pale white, warming and tonifying formulas that invigorate blood should be used.

Deep-rooted Dingyi (Nail-like Nebula) shares the same pathology as Membrane Entering the Water Wheel. This results from labor-induced damage to the Liver Meridian, or in individuals with irritable temperaments, or women weeping with suppressed emotions, where strong desires lead to Liver constraint and injury. The eyes are red and stiff, difficult to open, with pain radiating to the head, tearing, photophobia, and fear of sunlight. The nail-like nebula deepens daily, drawing in the iris, with deep roots and blood support, ultimately immobile. Treatment method: Use formulas such as Retrening Heat Drink to dispel wind and dissipate blood stasis. If pain is severe, take Jiudiao San (Wine-Mixed Powder) one or two doses. For headache, apply warm compresses with scallion and mugwort. Wash the eyes with Fangfeng, Chuanxiong, Juhua, Guiwei, Baizhi, Mahuang, Qianghuo, Jingjie, etc. Insufflate alchemical pills according to the size and severity of the nebula. Rest and avoid wind. Strictly abstain from sexual indulgence and anger. If there is no pain, it is also an incurable condition.
Question: Why do nebulas on the cornea appear like needle points or hemp seeds? Answer: This is due to Liver deficiency and stirring of fire. This syndrome is mostly caused by irritable individuals or excessive mental exertion. Treatment method: For severe pain, take Xigan San (Liver-Washing Powder) or Tangjian San (Sugar-Decoction Powder); apply Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder) mixed with Liangge San (Cooling the Diaphragm Powder). (Both mentioned previously).
