Treats the condition of Yin and Yang poisons in cold damage (Shanghan) mutually lurking, presenting with critical and malignant symptoms.
Bo Shang Shihuang (Shipborne Sulfur), Shuiyin (Mercury), Taiyinshi (Taiyin Stone), Taiyangshi (Taiyang Stone), Yuanjingshi (Yuanjing Stone) (each 1 liang), Xiaoshi (Niter) (0.5 liang).
Grind the above medicines into fine powder. First, use a non-oily pot, stir-fry using alternating mild and strong heat, add all the powdered medicines, stir-fry until uniform and gray in color, then grind finely like flour. Soak with fresh ginger juice to form pills. Take with Rougui Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction). Strictly avoid stir-frying in dark or damp places.
Haizang (Wang Haogu) stated: This pill is used for the mutual lurking and hiding of Yin and Yang poisons; therefore, Naobzi (Borneolum Syntheticum) and Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) are used, taken with honey water. If it is clearly seen as merely a Yin syndrome without any lurking Yang pathogen, it is not appropriate to use this formula for purging. If there is a lurking Yang pathogen, one should apply Zhang Zhongjing's pulse method of "Xi Yan Chen" (fluttering and sinking pulse) to investigate. Refer to Xu Xueshi's entry on Poyin Dan (Breaking Yin Pill). Shuhe (Wang Shuhe) stated: A short pulse indicates Yang pathogen lurking within Yin.
Treats cold damage where excessive intake of cold-natured medicines has led to abdominal distension and fullness, cold limbs, mental confusion and inability to recognize people, transforming into a malignant Yin poison syndrome.
Rougui (Cortex Cinnamomi) (3 fen), Chishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) (1 liang), Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae) (1 liang), Qianhu (Radix Peucedani) (1 liang), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) (1 liang, processed), Dang Gui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis) (1 liang), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae) (1 liang).
Pound the above ingredients into coarse powder. Each dose is 5 qian. Use 1 zhen of water and 3 jujubes. Decoct until reduced to 6/10 volume. Strain the dregs. Take at any time, slightly warm.
Regarding this entry, since it initially was a Yang syndrome that transformed into Yin poison due to excessive intake of cooling medicines, the formula contains Qianhu (Radix Peucedani). Knowing that Shaoyang disease persists indicates an error in medication, similar to the situation with Xiexin Tang (Gallbladder-Draining Decoction) plus Fuzi.
Treats Yin poison cold damage, characterized by bluish complexion, cold extremities, abdominal qi distension, and a deep, thin pulse.
Shihuang (Sulfur) (0.5 liang, ground), Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae) (0.5 liang), Bichengqie (Fructus Tetradii) (0.5 liang), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata) (0.5 liang, processed), Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Secati) (1 fen), Ganzhe (Scorpio) (0.5 liang, stir-fried), Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae) (0.5 liang, washed with hot water and stir-fried).
Grind the above into fine powder. Boil with wine to make a paste, forming pills the size of tung tree seeds. Each dose is 30 pills, taken with Shengjiang Tang (Fresh Ginger Decoction). Take frequently. Subsequently, drink one cup of hot wine and cover with blankets to induce sweating.
