It is stated: Human life is transformed by the essence of the five grains; with the completeness of the five flavors, the body form is generated. The Classics state: "Flavors return to the form." If damaged by excessive flavors, it can also harm the form. Now, if diet and drinking exceed moderation, the intestines and stomach cannot bear it, and Qi is insufficient for transformation, thus injuring the Spleen. It is stated: "If food and drink double in quantity, the intestines and stomach are injured." Or, failing to follow the nourishment of the four seasons, one becomes ill. The Classics state: "The Qi Kou pulse corresponds to Kun (representing the Spleen and Stomach); the mouth is the manifestation of the Spleen," therefore, when the Spleen and Stomach are injured. When the Qi Kou pulse is tight and full due to injury, there are degrees of severity and lightness. For instance, if the Qi Kou pulse is one-fold stronger, reaching six beats per respiration cycle, it indicates injury to the Jueyin Meridian (Jueyin Meridian), which is a mild case, treated primarily with Binglang Wan (Areca Nut Pill). If the Qi Kou pulse is two-fold stronger, reaching seven beats per respiration cycle, it indicates injury to the Shaoyin Meridian (Shaoyin Meridian), which is a severe case, treated primarily with Zhu Huang Wan (Boiled Rhubarb Pill). If the Qi Kou pulse is three-fold stronger, reaching eight or nine beats per respiration cycle, it indicates injury to the Taiyin Meridian (Taiyin Meridian), which is an exceptionally severe case, resulting in chest and abdominal distension and confusion, severe pain in the heart and chest, constant nausea, relief upon vomiting, commonly known as "Food Intoxication Wind" (Shi Mi Feng). The Classics state: "If there is pulse at the upper part but none at the lower part, the person should vomit; if they do not vomit, they will die." Emesis is indicated, using Gengti San (Melon Pedicle Powder). If emesis is not possible, there is no treatment. The Classics state: "Where the pathogen is high, induce vomiting to expel it; where it is low, guide it downward to empty it." If the injury is too severe, Zhang Zhongjing's Sanwu Beiji Wan (Three-Ingredient Emergency Pill) is used to purge downwards. Haizang said: The internal injury to the three meridians discussed by Jiegu refers to the *Neijing*, specifically the pulse methods of Qibo in the *Lingshu*.
