Treats various Sha syndromes (heat-toxin diseases manifesting with petechiae) causing numbness of the hands and feet, trismus (lockjaw), eyes closed and inability to speak, red spots on the chest and back, or sore throat.
Beixixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma Preparatum), Yazao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus Spina) (each 3.5 qian), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Guangmuxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Guanzhong (Cyathulae Rhizoma), Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Zhibanxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 2 qian), Kufan (Alumen), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) (1 qian).
The above thirteen herbs are ground together into a fine powder, tightly packed in a porcelain bottle. For each use, take 3 fen of powder and insufflate it into the nostrils. For those with severe cold-dampness accumulation internally, mix 1 qian with warm water for oral administration. Adding 2 qian of Suhexiang (Styrax) to the formula is particularly excellent. Note: Most Sha medicine formulas contain precious medicinal materials. This one, however, is inexpensive. When used for nasal insufflation, it is quite effective. The late gentleman Mr. Xu Yazhi once prepared large quantities of this formula and entrusted me to distribute it freely in Chunxi for many years; the local people were all grateful and praised it.

Treats summer-heat dampness Huoluan (cholera-like disease with vomiting and diarrhea), frequent contraction of Sha pathogens, and exposure to foul, turbid, and unwholesome qi, resulting in fever, fatigue, abdominal distension and fullness, limb discomfort, parotid swelling, sore throat, jaundice, thirst, malaria, dysentery, stranguria, cloudy urine, diarrhea, sores and ulcers, and maladaptation to local water and soil conditions. Provided that the patient's tongue coating is pale white, thick and greasy, or dry and yellow, indicating that the epidemic pathogen remains in the Qi level, this pill should be used as the primary treatment. Physicians attending cases should also modify prescriptions based on these principles, thereby ensuring complete recovery.
Feihuashi (Talcum), Mianyichen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba), Danhuangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Chuanbeimu (Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) (each 5 liang), Huoxiang (Agastaches Rhizoma), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium), Baidoukou (Amomi Fructus Rotundus) (each 4 liang).
The above eleven herbs must not be added to or subtracted from. They are sun-dried, ground into a fine powder, and stored tightly in a porcelain bottle. Take 3 qian per dose, administered orally with warm water, twice daily. Alternatively, make pills the size of bullet seeds using Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) paste, and dissolve them before ingestion. This pill is highly effective for treating damp-warmth and seasonal epidemics. Collected and distributed by colleagues over many years, it is inexpensive yet potent, with no superior alternative. It is also known as Puji Jieyi Dan (Universal Relief Epidemic Pill).
