Ying disease (goiter-like neck masses), initially resembles a goiter nodule. This type of Ying disease tends to occur below the neck, centrally located without deviating to either side. It is painless and non-itchy at first; this constitutes Ying disease. Among Chinese people, Ying disease caused by Qi stagnation presents as hanging flaccidity without hard nodules. In the regions of Chang'an and Xiangyang, local barbarian tribes who drink sandy water are prone to Ying disease characterized by clustered, palpable nodules without deep roots, floating within the skin. Women in these areas suffer from it frequently because their Kidney Qi is robust; the nature of sand and stone combines with the Kidney, causing Kidney excess, thus leading to Ying disease. For women in the north who drink sandy water, childbirth and nursing are difficult; delivery cannot occur without acupuncture or moxibustion intervention, hence some families fail to save lives, truly due to this reason.
