Lei Gong said: When using (Yunshi/Caesalpinia decapetala), do not use Chizhi Man, as its shape resembles Feilian. However, when Chizhi Man encounters wine, its color turns red like blood; this can serve as a distinguishing feature.
For processing, first scrape off the rough outer bark. After completion, pound it, mix with Ku Jiu (vinegar), and soak overnight. The next morning, strain it out, dry in the sun, then finely pound for use.
Lei Gong said: Those that are small in size, with wrinkled and bubbly skin, covered with a layer of white salt-like frost, possess all five flavors: sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and sweet. Those with complete flavors are authentic.
When using, split them into two halves with a copper knife, soak in honey, and steam from Si hour to Shen hour. Then, soak in Jiang Shui (fermented grain water) overnight, bake until dry, and use.
Lei Gong said: When using (Da Zelan/Xiao Zelan), one must distinguish between male and female types, as their forms differ. Da Zelan has round leaves and fruits, with greenish-yellow roots; it can generate blood, regulate qi, and nourish ying (nutritive qi). Xiao Zelan is completely different; upon inspection after harvesting, its leaves have spots and its rootlets are sharp. This herb can break blood stasis and unblock long-standing accumulations.
For processing Da Zelan, finely chop it, place it in a silk bag, and hang it in the corner on the south side of the house to dry before use.
Lei Gong said: When using [herb name implied or missing in source], use Nong Lan Zhi (concentrated orchid juice) and Baibu Gen Cao Zi Ran Zhi (natural juice of Stemona root) together to soak during the three Fu periods. Strain out, dry in the sun. Then, mix with Sheng Di Huang Zhi (juice of Rehmannia root) and steam from Wu hour to Hai hour. Dry in the sun for use.
This herb causes yang qi to flourish repeatedly, known as "Gui Kao."
Lei Gong said: When using, select those with eight-angled leaves.
For processing, after harvesting, dry in the shade, remove the roots, finely chop, and use. Do not let fire touch it.
Lei Gong said: When using, do not use Ya Die Gen Cao. It looks very similar but differs in flavor and efficacy.
For processing, after harvesting, scrape off the yellow-red outer bark with a knife. Finely chop, place in a bag made of two or three layers of silk, and dry in the shade. Before use, soak in honey overnight, strain out the next morning, and use.
Lei Gong said: After harvesting, roughly pound, mix evenly with a little honey, store in a porcelain vessel, steam during the three Fu periods, dry in the sun, and use.
Lei Gong said: When using, after harvesting, roughly crush, mix thoroughly with granular Yu Shi (another name for Yunshi), steam for one day, then take out and use.
