A person suddenly develops small sores on the head and face for no apparent reason, which are extremely itchy; by the second day, the head feels as heavy as a mountain; by the third day, the face and eyes turn cyanotic. Most people do not recognize this condition, which is extremely dangerous. If not treated urgently, the entire body will turn blue within a few days, leading to death. However, if the cyanosis does not extend to the chest, it can still be treated. This occurs because the patient has previously consumed hot-tonic aphrodisiacs, causing extreme heat to transform into toxicity.

...When pathogenic factors accumulate in Yin regions, they form carbuncles (deep-seated suppurative infections); when they accumulate in Yang regions, they form toxic swellings. Those appearing on the head and face belong to Yang regions and are more terrifying than those arising in Yin regions. Without using a large amount of detoxifying herbs, how can one revive the dying? The prescription used is Huisheng Dan (Revival Pill): Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua, 8 liang), Licorice Root (Gancao, 5 qian), Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen, 3 liang), Dandelion (Pugongying, 3 liang), Trichosanthes Root (Tianhuafen, 3 qian), Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong, 1 liang). Decoct with water and take orally. After one dose, the head feels light, and the cyanotic color fades. After another dose, the cyanosis completely disappears, and the sore heals; three doses are unnecessary. This formula resolves toxicity without depleting healthy Qi, eliminates toxins without damaging Yin fluids, thus achieving remarkable results. This toxicity originally stems from extreme depletion of Kidney Water (Kidney Yin). Herbs that purge heat and resolve toxins invariably damage both Yin and Yang. Only Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua) excels in both attacking pathogens and tonifying deficiency, making it the Sovereign herb. If used in small amounts, its flavor is simple and efficacy weak; if used in large amounts, its flavor is rich and efficacy potent. Added to Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen) to clear fire, Licorice Root (Gancao) to purge toxins, Dandelion (Pugongying) to clear heat, Trichosanthes Root (Tianhuafen) to resolve phlegm, and Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong) to dissipate nodules, they naturally assist each other to achieve efficacy.

Secret Formula: Huisheng Dan for Nameless Swelling and Toxicity, Eight Liang of Jinyinhua, Five Qian of Gancao, Three Liang each of Xuanshen and Pugongying, Three Qian of Tianhuafen, One Liang of Chuanxiong added. One dose clears all swelling and toxicity, two doses bring complete recovery with miraculous effect.

The prescription Huajin San (Flower Brocade Powder) is also effective: Rhynchosia volubilis (Jindiluo, 8 liang), Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua, 8 qian), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui, 2 qian), Trichosanthes Root (Tianhuafen, 5 qian), Licorice Root (Gancao, 5 qian). Decoct with water and take orally. Efficacy appears after one dose; continue taking it.

Some people develop nameless swellings and toxicities in places beyond their imagination, with fierce conditions involving life-and-death stakes. These can all be termed "nameless swelling and toxicity," regardless of whether they are located superiorly, centrally, or inferiorly. The previous section only discussed the head and face, not the left, right, front, back of the body, nor the hands, feet, and limbs. Without knowing the treatment method, there is nothing that cannot be universally treated; without the correct method, one must not treat rashly; losing the treatment method causes great harm. However, treatments for the upper part cannot be used for the middle, treatments for the middle cannot be used for the lower, and treatments for the lower cannot be used for the upper and middle. Generally, swellings and toxicities arising in the upper, middle, and lower parts often originate from individuals with excessive sexual indulgence, compounded by anger, worry, and resentment. Fire pathogens exploit these weaknesses to accumulate, making them uncontrollable once erupted. Therefore, "nameless swelling and toxicity" refers entirely to Yin syndromes, with absolutely no Yang syndromes. Thus, the treatment method should employ herbs that resolve Yin toxicity. However, most herbs that resolve Yin toxicity tend to consume True Yin. Since the toxicity forms due to deficiency, and resolving the toxin further depletes Yin, where does the Yin remain? Patients suffering from this condition in the world often cannot be saved, precisely for this reason. I received transmission from an extraordinary person, employing a method of dispersing stagnation while nourishing Yin, slightly assisting with detoxifying agents and minor guiding herbs, thereby achieving many miraculous successes. I dare not keep this secret; I have recorded it in books to save people for generations to come. The prescription used is Heihu Tang (Black Tiger Decoction): Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen, 1 jin), Licorice Root (Gancao, 1 liang), Bupleurum Root (Chaihu, 3 qian). Decoct these three ingredients in water until ten bowls remain. For head and facial toxicities, add Szechuan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong, 1 liang) and Prepared Aconite Root (Fuzi, 2 qian); for those arising on the front, back, left, and right of the body, add Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui, 1 liang), Chrysanthemum Flower (Juhua, 1 liang), and Prepared Aconite Root (Fuzi, 3 fen); for those arising on the hands, feet, and limbs, add Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu, 2 liang), Poria (Fuling, 2 liang), and Prepared Aconite Root (Fuzi, 5 fen). Add these to the medicinal decoction, simmer again to obtain three bowls of juice, and finish within two days. Unruptured sores will immediately dissipate; ruptured sores will regenerate tissue; two doses are unnecessary. This formula is named Heihu Tang, implying that evil toxins are completely dispersed upon encountering it. Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen) can subdue floating fire; aided by Licorice Root (Gancao), it neutralizes its rapid potency; assisted by Bupleurum Root (Chaihu), it soothes stagnant Qi. Moreover, each contains guiding herbs that direct the action to the site of toxicity, greatly aiding in elimination. The brilliance lies in using one jin of Scrophularia Root (Xuanshen) for greater power, and the brilliance further lies in combining tonification with dispersion, thereby resolving Yin toxicity without injuring Yin Qi, resulting in the most divine efficacy. Do not be startled by the heavy dosage and hesitate to try it. However, for minor conditions that are not Yin toxicity, such heavy dosages are unnecessary, which is another point that must be known.

Secret Formula: In Heihu Tang, One Liang of Gancao, Three Qian of Chaihu, One Jin of Xuanshen. If head and facial toxicity, add One Liang of Chuanxiong and Two Qian of Fuzi. For body front/back/left/right, add One Liang of Danggui and Juhua plus Fuzi. For hands/feet/limbs, Two Liang of Baizhu, Two Liang of Fuling, and Five Fen of Fuzi decocted.

The prescription Qisheng Tang (Seven Sages Decoction) also treats this: Dandelion (Pugongying, 4 liang), Purple Viper Bugleweed (Zihua Diding, 4 liang), Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua, 4 liang), Rhynchosia volubilis (Jindiluo, 4 liang), Angelica Sinensis Root (Danggui, 3 liang), Trichosanthes Root (Tianhuafen, 5 qian), Licorice Root (Gancao, 4 qian). Decoct with water and take orally.

Secret Formula: Qisheng Tang uses Pugongying and Diding, Four Liang each of Jinyinhua and Jindiluo, Three Liang of Danggui follows, Five Qian of Tianhuafen and Four Qian of Gancao enter, urgently decoct and attack mild Yin toxicity cases.
