Wine (Jiu), with a bitter, sweet, and acrid taste, is extremely hot in nature and toxic. Its primary functions are to facilitate the action of medicinal substances, eliminate various pathogenic factors, remove noxious qi, unblock blood vessels, enrich the stomach and intestines, moisten the skin and muscles, and alleviate sorrow. Moderate consumption is particularly beneficial; excessive drinking damages the spirit, shortens lifespan, alters one's innate nature, and its toxicity is severe. Indulgence in drunkenness is the source of premature death. One should not drink excessively; if one realizes they have drunk too much, it is best to induce vomiting promptly, otherwise phlegm disorders may arise. One should avoid reaching a state of profound intoxication, as this leads to persistent ailments throughout life. Wine should not be consumed over long periods, lest it corrode the stomach and intestines, soak into the marrow, and steam the sinews.
After becoming drunk, one must not lie down facing the wind, as this generates wind disorders. One must not lie down facing the sun, as this can cause madness. One must not allow oneself to be fanned while drunk, as this may lead to hemiplegia (Pianku). One must not sleep outdoors while drunk, as this generates cold-bi syndrome. If one sweats while drunk and is exposed to wind, it results in Loufeng (wind leakage disorder). One must not sleep on millet chaff while drunk, as this causes leprosy-like diseases. One must not force food intake or become angry while drunk, as this generates carbuncles and sores. One must not ride horses or jump around while drunk, as this injures sinews and bones. One must not engage in sexual intercourse while drunk; minor consequences include facial eruptions and coughing, while major consequences involve organ damage and hemorrhoids.
One must not wash one's face with cold water while drunk, as this causes sores. While still drunk, one must not drink again, as this adds injury to injury. One must not shout loudly or rage while drunk, as this induces Qi disorders. On the last day of the lunar month (Hui), one should avoid heavy intoxication, and it is taboo to drink heavily during the "empty moon" phase. One must not consume dairy products (cheese/whey) while drunk, as this leads to Yebing (dysphagia/choking disease). One must not lie down immediately after drinking, as this causes facial boils and internal accumulations. After heavy intoxication, one should not light lamps or shout, lest the soul and spirit fly away and fail to remain anchored. One must not drink cold liquids while drunk, as this causes loss of voice and Shiyeye (corpse-choking).
When drinking wine, if the liquid in the cup does not reflect the human shadow, it should not be consumed. One must not hold urine while drunk, as this leads to Longbi (difficulty in urination), knee strain, and cold-bi. Drinking on an empty stomach inevitably leads to vomiting when drunk. One must not hold stool while drunk, as this causes intestinal issues and hemorrhoids. Wine is contraindicated with all sweet foods. Pork should not be eaten when drunk from wine, as this generates wind. One must not exert strength forcibly while drunk, as this injures sinews and depletes energy. During drinking, one must absolutely avoid eating pig brain or sheep brain, as these are highly damaging to humans, especially those practicing cultivation of true essence. When drunk, one must not cool off in the wind or expose the feet, as this frequently causes Hongxiangjiao (Hong Kong foot/tinea pedis). One must not sleep on damp ground while drunk, as this injures sinews and bones, generating cold-bi pain. One must not bathe while drunk, as this often leads to eye and visual disorders. For those suffering from eye diseases, it is strictly forbidden to get drunk or eat garlic.
