To treat "duikou" sores (a type of carbuncle located at the back of the neck), it can be taken regardless of whether it is a Yin syndrome or a Yang syndrome. Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos) 5 qian, Pugongying (Taraxaci Herba) 1 liang, Sheng Gancao Jie (Raw Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma with nodes) 3 qian, decocted in water and taken continuously for three doses to eliminate the sore. If the sore has already ulcerated, use Qisheng Tang (Seven Sages Decoction): Zhen Taidangshen (Codonopsis Radix from Taihang Mountains), Zhi Baizhu (Prepared Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Sheng Huangqi (Raw Astragali Radix), Danggui Shen (Radix Angelicae Sinensis root portion) each 1 liang, Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos) 2 liang, Baijiezi (Sinapis Semen) 3 qian, Shang Angui (Cinnamomi Cortex stripped of rough bark) 1 qian; taking it six times can lead to recovery.
Another prescription: Crush Huapichong (slippery snails/slugs), add Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum), and apply externally to relieve pain.
Another prescription: Take Zao Shang Touyoupo (cockroaches found on stoves), remove wings and legs, crush them, add Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum), mix with mushy rice to form a paste, and apply externally; this is also effective.
Another prescription: Crush Hongcai (Ipomoea aquatica, water spinach) and apply externally; if stems and leaves are unavailable, crushing the roots is also acceptable.
When sores/toxins attack the heart, causing restlessness of the mind and difficulty swallowing food: Take one large Xiamawa (toad), extract its Chan Su (Chanterelle Toad Venom), place it inside a date stone removed from the flesh, wrap the date around the venom, split one Da Congbai (white part of Allium fistulosum), sandwich the date within the scallion, boil in wine, discard the date, and eat the scallion; this is extremely effective.
Another prescription: Grind Digupi (Lycii Cortex) into powder, mix with boiling honey water, and ingest to achieve relief.
This method is highly effective for encircling various swollen toxins. Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 3 liang, Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) 2 liang, Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix), Caowu (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Baiji (Bletillae Rhizoma), Bailian (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) each 1 liang, Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis) 1.5 liang, Xiaofen (Tapioca Starch, preferably sour-smelling, stir-fried with vinegar) 4 liang. Grind all above into fine powder, mix evenly with Rice Vinegar, apply around the swelling to encircle it, leaving the head exposed.
Another prescription: Sheng Dahuang (Raw Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) 5 qian, Mubiezi (Strychni Semen, earth-fried) 3 qian, grind into fine powder, mix with authentic Rice Vinegar, and apply to the affected area, leaving the head exposed.
Another prescription: Rushiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha), Shexiang (Moscus) each 3 fen, Yan You (two slugs), crush together and apply to the affected area to eliminate swelling; this prescription is extremely effective.
All these conditions belong to the Du Mai (Governor Vessel) meridian and are caused by Fire-Toxin. Upper Fabei (Upper Back Carbuncle) involves Fire-Toxin injuring the Lung, occurring below the Tianzhu bone (cervical spine), with a shape wide horizontally like a belly. Middle Fabei (Middle Back Carbuncle) involves Fire-Toxin injuring the Liver, occurring on the center of the back, with a shape broad in the middle and pointed at both ends like a melon. Lower Fabei (Lower Back Carbuncle) involves Fire-Toxin injuring the Kidney, occurring in the waist, with a flat and spreading shape like a turtle. Initially, they appear like millet grains, accompanied by pain, numbness, itching, general stiffness, alternating chills and fever. After lingering for several days, sudden massive swelling occurs. Those with excess Qi experience more pain; those with deficient Qi experience more numbness and itching. Initial treatment: Regardless of deficiency or excess, moxibustion with garlic slices should be applied first. If ineffective, direct moxibustion should be applied to the top of the lesion until pain is felt. This is the method of transforming large lesions into small ones and moving deep pathology to superficial levels. After moxibustion, pierce a hole at the apex of the sore with a needle, then use medicinal bamboo cupping to drain. It is crucial to ensure the toxin is vented internally and externally to prevent internalization. If exterior symptoms exist (fever, aversion to cold, floating pulse, no sweat), administer Jingfang Baidu San (Schizonepeta and Saposhnikovia Powder to Overcome Toxicity) to induce sweating. If interior symptoms exist (fever, heat intolerance, dry constipation, rapid pulse), administer Neishu Huanglian Tang (Internal Draining Coptis Decoction) to purge. If both exterior and interior symptoms exist with a floating-rapid pulse, administer Shenshou Weisheng Tang (Divine Grant Health-Preserving Decoction) to resolve both. When pus formation is imminent, employ the method of supporting the interior and penetrating pus by administering Tuoli Tou Nong Tang (Interior-Supporting Pus-Penetrating Decoction). Once ulcerated, administer Tuoli Pai Nong Tang (Interior-Supporting Pus-Discharging Decoction). If necrotic tissue remains after ulceration, apply Bagao externally to dissolve it. Post-ulceration, always nourish Qi and Blood. For flesh regeneration methods after necrotic tissue is cleared, refer to collected prescriptions.
For these three conditions, regardless of age, high swelling, redness, vitality, and pain indicate a favorable prognosis (Shun). Flat swelling, collapse, desiccation, and purple-black discoloration indicate an unfavorable prognosis (Ni). Although attributed to Fire-Toxin, there is no case not resulting from Yin Deficiency. The Classic states: Deficiency in the Du Mai leads to pathology emerging from the brain; deficiency in the Bladder Meridian leads to pathology emerging from the back. Therefore, one must not rigidly adhere solely to treating Fire-Toxin, hence cold-cooling herbs are contraindicated.
