One: The compilation, collection, verification, and textual research of this book spanned nearly twenty years; the details are fully explained in the preface. Although not every prescription has been personally tested, occasional application often yields miraculous results. Therefore, I dare to have it printed and published for the enjoyment of fellow enthusiasts.
One: This book aims for safety and reliability. External treatments predominate; even internal prescriptions have been carefully deliberated before inclusion. Since my knowledge of drug properties is not exhaustive, should there be any errors or omissions, I earnestly request correction from experts.
One: Wealthy families prefer expensive medicines, but quack doctors often cater to this preference, disregarding human life as if it were grass, and becoming accustomed to such negligence without surprise. They fail to realize that if a medicine matches the syndrome, even common items like a pig's bladder (Suibo) can produce miraculous effects; conversely, if it does not match, even ginseng (Renshen) and deer antler (Lurong) may cause delay and harm. Proper processing and accurate dosage are essential for efficacy. This book contains few expensive herbs, mostly common items readily available even in remote villages. Do not despise them because they are ordinary.
One: This book was compiled casually, with categories not strictly arranged, deviating from standard format for the sake of custom and convenience. Those who understand will forgive this.
One: Among ancient and modern texts on treating carbuncles and ulcers, Mr. Wang Hongxu (Wade), a scholar from Linwu Mountain in Gusu, authored *Waike Quansheng Ji* (Complete Collection for the Life of Surgery), which is considered the most outstanding. His methods for treating deep-seated abscesses (Ju) are uniquely brilliant through the ages. Other prescriptions for miscellaneous diseases also show great efficacy. This book has adopted eighty to ninety percent of these, clearly marking their source for readers' reference. The preface and general rules of *Quansheng Ji* are appended at the end so readers may appreciate the author's unique insight and profound intention to save lives.
One: The prescriptions in this book are often effective, using inexpensive materials and simple preparation, suitable for both rich and poor. Keeping a copy at home is very convenient. Printing and distributing it brings greater merit than distributing books of good deeds or scriptures. If one can raise funds to reprint and widely circulate it, or prepare medicines according to these formulas to practice medicine and help the world, this merit far exceeds ordinary acts of kindness. Gentlemen who love benevolence, please do not neglect this!
One: Gentlemen from all directions, if you have miraculous and effective prescriptions, please send them to XXXXXXXX for subsequent printing.
When this syndrome occurs, the patient feels aversion to wind even in midsummer, with unbearable pain. Stir-fry buckwheat flour until hot, add vinegar and stir-fry again. Apply while hot to the affected area, wrap tightly with cloth, avoid exposure to wind, and replace immediately when cool, day and night without interruption. A person suffered from head wind disease (Toufeng) for ten years without cure. Following this treatment, the illness vanished completely. After recovery, yellow fluid flowed from the nose for several days, after which the disease was eradicated. Tested repeatedly with miraculous results, this is the primary formula for treating head wind disease. It also treats common cold-induced headaches, but is ineffective for headaches caused by Qi deficiency, wind-fire, or worm pain.
Another formula: Raw Aconitum carmichaelii root (Chuanwu, peeled) 4 liang, Star Nodule (Nanxing, soaked) 1 liang. Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose. Decoct seven leaves of Mint (Bohe) and one salted plum (Yanmei) in water. Mix the powder with this decoction and take before sleep. Effective even for twenty-year-old head wind disease. Alternatively, use raw Nanxing and raw Chuanwu in equal parts, grind into powder, mix with scallion juice, and apply to the Taiyang acupoint.
Another formula: Press the head with hands to find a spot that causes more soreness and pain upon pressure. Mark this spot with cinnabar. Take one Mylabris phalerata (Banmao), remove head, wings, and legs, grind into powder. Place the powder on the marked painful spot. Cover with a small clam shell or walnut shell, tie securely with cloth. Leave overnight until a small blister forms. Prick the blister with a needle to drain fluid; pain disappears immediately. Treated several patients who remained symptom-free for many years after recovery.
Another formula: Sulfur (Liuhuang) 1 qian, Sichuan pepper (Chuanjiao, select red ones, remove seeds, grind) 3 fen. Mix well and form into small cakes. For left-sided headache, insert into left nostril; clear discharge flows from right nostril. For right-sided headache, insert into right nostril. For central headache, insert into both nostrils. Cure occurs when clear discharge ceases. Miraculously effective.
Another formula: Long Pepper (Bibo) powder 3 qian. Place inside a pig gallbladder. Wait until dry, then remove. Add true Chuanxiong, Angelica dahurica (Baizhi), Ligusticum chuanxiong (Gaoben), Indigo naturalis (Qingdai), and Corydalis yanhusuo (Yanhusuo), each 2 qian. Grind into powder. Mix with water to form pills the size of lotus seeds. Have the patient lie supine. Dissolve one pill in water and instill into the nose. When the medicinal taste reaches the throat and a slight sour sensation is felt, have the patient sit up. Have the patient bite a copper coin. Cure occurs when saliva fills a basin. Adding 1 qian of Sophora flavescens bark (Zaojiao) powder is also acceptable.
Another formula: Baizhi 2 liang 5 qian, true Chuanxiong, Licorice (Gancao), Aconitum carmichaelii root (Chuanwu, half raw half cooked), Tianma each 1 liang. Grind into fine powder. (Note: Original text cuts off here regarding administration method).
Another formula: Baizhi 3 qian, Tianma and Fangfeng each 1 qian, Jingjie 1.5 qian. Grind into powder, decoct, and take orally. This is an empirical formula from Master Linwu Shanren.
Another formula: Rub true Aiye (Artemisia argyi) into pills. Sniff frequently until yellow fluid drains completely.
Another formula: Crush Fengweicao (Pteris multifida), mix with 1 fen of Musk (Shexiang). Apply to the fontanelle (Ximen). Very effective.
Another formula: Duliang Wan: In the past, Wang Dingguo suffered from head wind disease and sought the famous doctor Yang Jie in Duliang. After taking three pills, the disease disappeared instantly. The formula uses Baizhi (washed with wine) ground into powder, formed into pills the size of bullet seeds with honey. Take with clear tea or Jingjie decoction after meals. Avoid eating various fish.
Another formula: Tianma and Baizhi, ground into powder, formed into honey pills weighing 2 qian each. Take one pill per dose. First, decoct 1 qian of Jingjie and 3 fen of Xixin in water. Chew the pill finely with this liquid. Severe cases require no more than one pill. Take after meals. Avoid eating various fish.
Another formula: Take fresh juice from raw Arctium lappa stems and leaves (roots if stems/leaves unavailable), 2 bowls. Add 1 bowl of aged rice wine and 8 fen of salt. Boil down into a paste.
Another formula: Go to where ox carts pass and wait for the ox to defecate. Immediately apply the hot dung to the head, wrap tightly with cloth, and walk briskly for five kilometers (ten li). If the head becomes itchy, walk faster; do not stop or rub. When itching stops, unwrap and observe; countless tiny white worms will be found on the dung. The patient is cured. Someone suffered from headache unresponsive to hundreds of medicines, but this formula eradicated the root cause. This is a formula passed down by a famous physician in Shaanxi.
