This is Yang Jaundice (Yang Huang). Use one white-feathered black-bone chicken (also known as down-flower chicken, or white phoenix, or silk-feathered chicken), dry-pluck the feathers, and split it open.
This is also Yang Jaundice (Yang Huang). After illness, the body and face are both yellow, vomiting blood in basins, with no effect from various medicines. Take ten river snails, wash them in water to remove mud, pound them into a paste, leave them exposed overnight, and at the fifth watch (early morning 3-5 AM), take the clear juice orally. After two or three doses, bleeding stops and jaundice recedes, leading to recovery. If the yellowing does not subside, continue treating according to the previous Tian Man Xing formula. This is most effective.
The formula is seen in *Xiong Bo*. Tian Man Xing (also known as Yi Xing Cao, or Jin Qian Cao) is a sacred medicine for treating Gallbladder Jaundice (Dan Huang Bing). The treatment method follows the previous description.
This syndrome often occurs after the Spring Equinox and before the Summer Solstice, hence called Plague (Wen Yi). If there is a ghostly pestilential qi, it is also called Li Yi. Since everyone suffers similarly, it is also called Tian Xing Shi Yi. Its symptoms are similar to Cold Damage (Shang Han), transmitting through meridians and affecting interior and exterior, which is no different. However, since the season is already warm, toxic vapors stagnate and steam, differing slightly from Cold Damage; dispersal should use neutral acrid agents.
There are also four-season plagues, with treatment methods roughly the same.
Ginger Sugar Drink: One cup of yellow sand sugar, one cup of fresh ginger juice, mixed evenly with one large cup of boiling water, drink urgently while hot, cover with blankets to induce sweating for recovery. Treats all four-season plagues.
Another Formula: Three he of white japonica rice, ten green onion heads with roots, boiled into thick porridge, add one wine cup of good vinegar, boil one or two more times, eat one bowl, take orally while hot to induce sweating for self-recovery. Not used if sweating has already occurred.
Another Formula: Cut pine needles finely, pound, use two qian each time, taken with wine, three times daily, very safe and effective.
Another Formula: Whenever one smells the sweat odor of a patient entering the nose and penetrating the brain, spreading through meridians, initially feeling headache, grind mustard seeds into powder, mix thickly with warm water, fill into the umbilicus, place one or two layers of cloth over it, then iron with a pot of hot water above until sweating occurs and recovery ensues.
Another Formula: Also treats Big Head Plague (Da Tou Wen). Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Liang Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Ku Fan (Alumen) in equal parts, ground into powder. Use one qian each time, mash a large scallion white into the palm, left for men and right for women, cover the umbilicus with the hand, curling the hand so medicine does not touch the navel, and use the other hand to hold the external genitalia anteriorly, women do likewise, decoct one bowl of mung bean soup to drink, light half a stick of incense to wait for sweating; if no sweat, drink more mung bean soup to promote it, recovery upon sweating.
Additionally, puncturing Shao Shang (LU11) leads to recovery, see the Cholera section for the method.
Chu Yi Jiu Ku Dan: Specifically treats all plagues, seasonal syndromes, as well as Cold Damage (Shang Han) and common cold, regardless of whether meridians have transmitted or not. Adults take one pill, children half a pill, mixed with cool water and taken orally, recovery upon sweating. For severe cases, take two consecutive doses. After taking medicine without sweating, strictly avoid hot soups and hot foods; no restrictions after sweating. This pill uses both cold and hot properties, its efficacy is miraculous, tested hundred times with hundred successes, those with means should prepare it to help others.
Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Ming Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Lv Dou (Phaseoli Semen, ground into powder), Song Luo Cha (Usnea Powder) each one liang two qian, Sheng Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ming Zhu Sha (Cinnabar), Ming Xiong Huang (Realgar)
Wine Ironing Method: Treats plague, Cold Damage (Shang Han), seasonal syndromes, or post-meal anger causing chest and heart distension and discomfort. Heat up high-quality liquor, dip two cloths in the wine, wipe downwards from the chest, replace with hot cloths when they cool, alternate wiping several times, the qi will flow freely and recover.
Lei Ji San: Specifically treats plague, and sudden abdominal pain, coldness of hands and feet (Jue Ni), dark blue-black complexion, as well as vomiting and diarrhea, cholera, Zhu Sha Syndrome (Heart Meridian Carbuncle), and all Sha Syndromes. In the first year of Qianlong, epidemic pestilence was rampant in Guizhou Province; suddenly this formula was struck by lightning fire onto the rock wall of Danping Mountain, saving countless lives. In the first year of Daoguang, Soft Leg Plague prevailed in Jiangnan provinces, treated according to this formula with miraculous effects. Ya Zao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina), Bei Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) each three qian half, Zhu Sha (Cinnabar), Ming Xiong (Realgar) each two qian half, Huo Xiang (Agastaches Herba) three qian, Ku Fan (Alumen), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) each one qian, Jie Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Guan Zhong (Cyrtomii Rhizoma), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Su Bo He (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Fa Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) each two qian, all ground into extremely fine powder, stored in bottles to prevent leakage, carry on person. For emergencies, take two or three fen, insufflate into the nose, then take one or two qian washed with ginger soup, lie quietly for a moment after ingestion, recovery upon sweating.
Pu Ti Jiu Ku Wan: Specifically treats spring and summer colds due to wind-cold, seasonal plague, summer-dampness, headache and thirst, fever and eye swelling, pelvic bone pain, nausea and aversion to cold, surging and rapid pulse, etc., repeatedly tested with divine efficacy. Zi Su (Perillae Folium), Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) each four liang, Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Chi Shao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Hua Fen (Trichosanthis Radix), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix) each three liang, Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Nong Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) each two liang, Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma) each one liang, all ground into powder, decoct new lotus stems and lotus leaves in water to make pills, each pill weighs two qian half. For internal injury from diet and external contraction of wind-cold, dissolve with fried Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) decoction; for others, use ginger soup or boiling water to swallow, except for heatstroke where ginger is not used. Adults take one pill, children half a pill. Over time, the medicinal flavor changes for better effect.
Bi Wen San: This formula specifically treats Cold Damage (Shang Han), Wind-Cold (Shang Feng), aversion to cold with high fever, headache and body pain, neck pain and stiff spine, lower back pain and eye swelling, nasal congestion and heavy voice, wind-phlegm cough, upper vomiting and lower diarrhea, thirst and red urine, internal injury from diet and contraction of abnormal qi of four seasons, Sha eruption, plague, miasma pestilence, ghost malaria, plague malaria, red eyes, mouth ulcers, damp-toxin, flowing abscesses, foot swelling, cheek swelling, wind-fire throat obstruction, toxic dysentery, wind-heat macules and rashes. Also treats Zhu Sha Syndrome (also known as Heart Meridian Carbuncle). Initial symptoms include scattered pulse, tight teeth, numbness and weakness of hands and feet, closed eyes and inability to speak, throat swelling, heart pain and palpitations, etc.
