White lumps grow within the hair of children, named "Head Boil" (Tou Jie). Many mistakenly identify it as swelling from a fall and pay little attention to it. Only when the lump becomes large, prominent, and painful do they seek medical treatment. Quack doctors, considering the head as the meeting place of all Yang meridians, erroneously use cold-natured detoxifying herbs. This leads to ulceration where pus fails to drain properly and irregular granulation tissue grows. They fail to realize that this condition presents with white coloration and non-red pus, indicating a syndrome of Yin-cold deficiency and weakness. Administer Xiao Jin Dan (Little Gold Pill); for early-stage cases, three doses will cause resolution; for already ulcerated cases, seven pills will lead to recovery. Apply Yang He Jie Ning Gao (Yang He Resolving Congealment Ointment) externally. When adults suffer from this, it is called "Fa Ju" (Hair Carbuncle), which can be cured by taking Yang He Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) alone (See formulas for Xiao Jin Dan and Yang He Tang in the section on Yin Carbuncles).
Another prescription: If the condition recurs after healing, apply Lv Yun Gao (Green Cloud Ointment) (see section on various formulas for carbuncles and toxins), which is extremely effective.
If a person has phlegm and saliva in the throat, and either can or cannot speak, this is named "Pi Nao Gan Chuang" (Split-Brain Chancre). Use San Fen (approx. 1 gram) of Mu Bie Zi (Strychnos Semen, roasted until carbonized but retaining its properties) mixed with Si San Li (approx. 0.1-0.2 grams) of Mei Hua Bing Pian (Borneol from Plum Blossom source), ground together into a fine powder, and insufflated into the throat.
This is named "Huo Zhu" (Fire Pearl); if delayed, it becomes difficult to treat. Urgently use raw radish, pounded into a paste, soaked thoroughly in good vinegar, and applied externally. This is an empirical formula from Linwu Shanshanren.
Another prescription: Internally take Di Ding Yin (Violet Herb Decoction) (see section on Ding Sores) for one to two doses. Externally, pound Chrysanthemum leaves into a pulp, mix with honey, and apply. Or use Yan Ni San (Swallow Mud Powder) (see section on carbuncles and toxins)... [text truncated].
Fu Shui Shi (Pumice Stone, calcined). Grind into powder, place in a bowl, mix evenly with Tong Bian (Child's Urine), smoke thoroughly with Ai Rong (Mugwort Floss) until the interior turns uniformly yellow. After cooling, mix with Ma You (Sesame Oil) and apply. Even conditions unhealed for ten years will heal within three to five days of application, exhibiting unparalleled efficacy. All chronic sores and toxins that have not healed for years can be treated. Treats residual toxins following smallpox vaccination/infection.
Another prescription: Mix Qing Fen (Calomel) with Tong You (Tung Oil) and apply. Effective even for conditions lasting many years.
Another prescription: Cleanse the affected area with Mi Tang You (Rice Water Oil, i.e., the thick liquid layer formed on top of cooked rice water). Take mud from swallow nests, mix with Sesame Oil, and apply. Healing occurs within a few days.
Named "Shi Jie" (Stone Boil). Half a teacup of Zi Wei Hua (Crape Myrtle Flower), boiled with lean pork meat and consumed, ensures prevention of this disease for one year.
Another prescription: Apply Dong Tian Xian Cao Gao (Fresh Grass Paste of the Cave Heaven) (see section on various formulas for carbuncles) for one day for complete resolution. Also effective for ulcerated cases. Uses Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit), Fen Hua (Trichosanthes Root), Chi Shao (Red Peony Root), Yin... [text truncated].
Another prescription: Break the stem of Ku... [text truncated] Cai (Bitter Vegetable); white juice exudes. Collect the juice and rub it on the lesion; it dissipates immediately. Most effective for early-stage cases.
Another prescription: Equal parts of Da Huang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome) and Yuan Zhi (Polygala Root), ground into powder, mixed with Pig Gallbladder Juice, and applied. Extremely effective.
Another prescription: Equal parts of Huang Bo (Phellodendron Bark), Zhen Chuan Lian (Coptis Rhizome), and Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), ground into powder, taken with Vinegar. Effective.
Another prescription: Pound Chrysanthemum leaves to extract juice, mix with White Honey, and apply. Use the residue to apply around the periphery, leaving the center uncovered. Once the toxic fluid drains completely, the lesion will dissipate.
