There is a formula named Hongbao Dan (Red Treasure Pill). It treats sores and ulcers of pure Yang syndrome, characterized by swelling, pain, and fever. The above ingredients are ground into powder, mixed with tea water, and applied to the affected area.
Another formula treats sores belonging to half-Yin half-Yang syndrome. The prescription consists of: 5 liang of Cercidiphylli Cortex (Zijingpi, 紫荆皮) (stir-fried), 3 liang of Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo, 独活) (nodes removed and stir-fried), 2 liang of Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishaoyao, 赤芍药) (stir-fried), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷), Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma (Shichangpu, 石菖蒲)... In cases where malignant sores attack the heart, causing mental restlessness, take Phellodendri Amurensis Cortex (Digupi, 地骨皮), grind it into powder, and take it with boiling honey water to calm the mind.
This is a formula for draining pus, indispensable in surgical treatment. The prescription consists of: 5 qian each of Bufo Venenum (Chansu, 蟾酥), Borax (Pengsha, 硼砂), Calomelas (Qingfen, 轻粉), and Crotonis Fructus (Badou, 巴豆), 2 snails, and 1 fen of Moschus (Shexiang, 麝香). First, grind Badou into a paste, add snails and Shexiang, and grind again. Then add the other medicines and grind until extremely fine. Store in a small porcelain bottle. For each use, take a small amount, dissolve it in milk, gently puncture the head of the toxin with a needle, insert a grain-sized amount of medicine into the sore opening, and apply Qingliang Gao (Cooling Ointment externally.
Burn silkworm cocoons to ash, take with wine; one cocoon expels one head of toxin, two cocoons expel two heads. For carbuncles and sores on the face whose scars do not fade quickly, cut fresh Canarium Album Seed (Ganlan, 橄榄), dip it in a small amount of Shexiang, and rub frequently. Within one or two days, there will be no trace; this is an excellent method. Otherwise, scars remaining on the face would make it difficult to meet people. In cases where sores have healed but red blisters reappear without forming scabs, apply aged vinegar and lard, and they will heal immediately. For chronic malignant sores that do not respond to various treatments or cause unceasing pain, mash fresh Portulaca Oleracea Herb (Machixian, 马齿苋) and apply it as a compress; after two or three applications, it will heal.
Tie a living toad onto the sore; within half a day, the toad will become comatose. Place it in water to save its life, then replace it with another. After three replacements, the toxin will dissipate. For severe cases,剖开 (cut open) the toad and apply it to the sore. Soon, it will become unbearable due to odor. After three such replacements, the swelling will heal naturally.
