Whenever a person suddenly collapses, immediately help them into a warm room, support their body to sit upright, and pour vinegar onto hot charcoal so that the vinegar fumes enter the nostrils; after a while, they will naturally regain consciousness. Alternatively, crush fresh Chinese chive (Jiucai) to extract juice and instill it into the nose, or blow powder of Gleditsia sinensis fruit (Zaojiao) into the nose; sneezing will restore consciousness. If medicines are unavailable in haste, urgently apply moxibustion (Ai Huo) three to five times at the Renzhong acupoint (GV26) and on both big toes approximately one leek-leaf width away from the nail bed; life can be saved.
This condition often results in death in bed. If a red spot is seen at the Shenshu acupoint (BL23, located in the depression on either side of the lower lumbar spine), it is treatable; if black, it is untreatable. Urgently use...
All detoxifying medicines should be taken cold. It is strictly forbidden to drink hot soups or water; drinking hot liquids renders the patient incurable. Seeing alcohol guarantees death.
Dig a pit three chi deep on clean ground (yellow earth is better), fill with one bucket of water, and stir with a stick. This is called "Earth Slurry" (Di Jiang), which can detoxify all poisons. For food separated... take...
Another prescription: Crush Bazhangcao (a creeping herb with small leaf-like seeds growing on earthen walls), decoct in water, and take cold. It can detoxify all poisons; this miraculous formula has been tested repeatedly with consistent success. Bazhangcao refers to the creeping herb with fine leaves resembling melon seeds growing on earthen walls.
Porcupine skin (Ciwei Pi), processed to retain its medicinal nature, ground into powder. Take 3 qian each time, mixed with wine; symptoms stop immediately.
Urgently administer large amounts of live duck blood. This is most effective for those who have consumed opium. If the body is cold and breath seems absent, appearing dead, but the body remains soft, it means the Qi of the Zang-Fu organs and meridians is still circulating, and the person is truly not dead; this is merely due to the stupefying effect of strong opium. Place the person in a damp, shady place. Use chopsticks to pry open the teeth (or use a porcelain spoon, or rub with a dried plum [Wumei] to open; using copper or iron may fail). Place a chopstick horizontally across the mouth to keep it open, and frequently irrigate with cold water, or preferably with cold water mixed with white rock sugar. Additionally, soak three handkerchiefs in cold water, place them on the chest, and replace them in rotation; whole tofu blocks may also be used. Prepare a basin of cold water, scatter hair into it, and change the water frequently. Do not expose the patient to sunlight; exposure to sun makes recovery impossible. After three to four days, when the opium fumes dissipate, the patient will revive. If the body is not stiff, revival is possible even within seven days. Do not hastily prepare for burial thinking there is no hope. This method has saved many people; regardless of the severity of poisoning, even if hands and feet are blue-black, following this rescue method ensures survival. Strictly avoid administering soy sauce, as the salt content may cause further harm. If multiple drugs were taken indiscriminately, rescue is impossible; be extremely cautious! After revival, frequently drink white rock sugar water and raw mung bean powder mixed with water for best results. An old coroner stated: In examining corpses of those who died from opium, prone positions are most common, lateral positions are frequent, and supine positions are rare. This is likely because, buried underground, after the opium toxins dissipate, the person revives, rolls around in the coffin, cannot get out, and eventually dies truly. Therefore, bones that are not prone but lateral serve as definitive proof that opium poisoning was survivable. During the 7th and 8th years of the Daoguang reign, a man surnamed Wu in Guangdong Province, living in an inn and driven to despair by poverty, swallowed opium and appeared to die. The innkeeper dared not bury him but learned he had relatives in Sanshui County and sent someone to notify them. Four days later, the relatives arrived, but the man had already revived the previous day. Another person swallowed opium, and hundreds of medicines failed. After apparent death, a spirit medium claimed: The failure was due to indiscriminate medication; only true South Borax (Nan Pengsha, yellow and gelatinous is authentic), mixed with cold water, can instantly resolve the toxicity. Trials showed miraculous results.
Another prescription: Administer pure vegetable oil (Qing You); relief is immediate. This is because opium adheres to the intestines and stomach, and oil disperses it.
Another prescription: Crush Bazhangcao, decoct in water, and take cold. Repeated trials show divine efficacy.
