Zhen Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper) is ground into powder, mixed with raw egg white, applied to the affected area, tightly bandaged with cloth, and left overnight for the foreign body to be expelled.
Scallion bulbs and Baishatang (White Rock Sugar, also known as Yangtang or Yantang) are mashed and melted, then applied topically; this is highly effective. If there is no improvement, Ming Xionghuang (Real Realgar Powder) should be applied immediately. Healing occurs when fluid drains out.
In the past, Xing Caojin was struck by an arrow in his left eye, with the tip embedded in the bone, making extraction difficult and causing excruciating pain. After his family performed extensive Buddhist rituals, a monk appeared in a dream instructing them to apply Hanshi Tang (Maltose made on Cold Food Festival day; ordinary maltose may be used if unavailable). When the area became itchy, the patient was tied to the bedpost, and the arrow was forcibly extracted, resulting in recovery. This account is recorded in *Longwei Mishi: Ji Yi*. (Refer to the Bone and Sinew section for related methods.)
In cases of sudden stroke with coma and loss of consciousness, one must first regulate Qi, then treat Wind. Suhe Wan (Styrax Pills) should be administered mixed with Zhuli (Bamboo Sap) and Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice). If the jaw is clenched, pry the mouth open to administer the medicine. If unable to pry open, urgently use Yazao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit), Sheng Banxia (Raw Pinellia Rhizome), and Xixin (Asarum Root) ground into powder, insufflated into the nose. Sneezing indicates a treatable condition; absence of sneezing suggests a fatal prognosis. It is crucial to distinguish between Bi Syndrome (Closed Pattern) and Tuo Syndrome (Collapsed Pattern). Clenched jaw and tightly clenched fists indicate Bi Syndrome. Use Suhe Xiang Wan (Styrax Incense Pills, available in pharmacies) or Sansheng Yin (Three Raw Decoction).
Sansheng Yin: Treats stroke with clenched jaw and fists. Contraindicated if the mouth is open and hands are relaxed. Sheng Nanxing (Raw Arisaema Rhizome) 2 qian, Sheng Chuanwu (Raw Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root, peeled) and Sheng Fuzi (Raw Aconitum Carmichaelii Side Root, peeled and navel removed) 1 qian each, Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix) 4 fen. Add Renshen (Ginseng Root) and decoct if Qi deficiency is present.
Xixian San (Phlegm-Resolving Powder): Treats stroke presenting as drowsiness resembling drunkenness, open mouth, relaxed hands, or drooling at the corner of the mouth. Urgently administer this powder if not treated promptly. Recovery follows vomiting. Xin Yazao (Fresh Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit, skin and fibers removed) 4 strips, Mingfan (Alumen) 1 liang. Grind into powder. Take 1 qian or slightly more, mix slowly with warm water, and administer. Avoid inducing excessive vomiting.
Kaiguan San (Orifice-Opening Powder): For sudden acute stroke, use this medicine first to open the orifices. Zaogao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit) 2 qian, Beixixin (Northern Asarum Root) 3 fen. Grind into fine powder. Insufflate a small amount into the nose to restore consciousness. If Beixixin is unavailable, using only Zaogao is acceptable.
Ci Zhen Bian Fa (Porcelain Needle Pricking Method): Use sharp fragments of broken porcelain to prick Shaoshang (LU11) acupoint until bleeding occurs to relieve symptoms. Shaoshang (LU11) is located on both sides of the thumbnail of the thumb, aligned with the nail root, approximately one leek-leaf width away from the nail edge on each side. First, massage from the arm towards the fingers to direct blood flow downward before pricking. Clamp the porcelain fragment with the head of a split bamboo chopstick, exposing only one fen of the porcelain tip. Tie securely with thread. Hold the chopstick ends with two fingers, press directly onto the acupoint, and strike the tied area horizontally with another bamboo chopstick to drive the porcelain tip in. This ensures controlled depth, described here for those lacking proper tools.
Baiye Yin (Cacumen Platycladi Decoction): For stroke with loss of consciousness, administer on the day of onset to prevent permanent disability. Cebaiye (Cacumen Platycladi) one handful, Congbai Lianxu (Scallion White with Roots) one handful. Mash into a paste. Decoct in one large bowl of Wuhui Jiu (Unadulterated Wine) for ten to twenty boils. Strain and administer while warm. Those who cannot drink alcohol should take it in divided doses. Contraindicated in Stroke Tuo Syndrome (Collapsed Pattern).
Another Prescription: Treats both stroke and Phlegm obstruction. Sheng Shigao (Raw Gypsum Fibrosum) 1 liang, Chensha (Cinnabar) 5 fen. Grind separately and mix evenly. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with raw honey. Effective immediately. Contraindicated in Stroke Tuo Syndrome (Collapsed Pattern).
Another Prescription: Chew fresh ginger thoroughly in the mouth, apply freely to the forehead (Tianting) and other facial areas. Additionally, drip Ginger Juice into the inner canthus of the left eye for males or the right eye for females to restore consciousness.
