During rescue: Immediately pry open the mouth, place a chopstick horizontally across it to facilitate water drainage; blow air into both ears using a bamboo tube; crush raw Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia, 半夏) into powder, take an amount the size of a bean, and blow it into the nostrils; also insert Sichuan Chinaberry Fruit Powder (Zaojiao, 皂角) into a tube and blow it into the anus.
If it is summer, lay the victim's abdomen transversely over a cow's back, have people hold both sides, and lead the cow to walk slowly; the water in the abdomen will naturally flow out from the mouth and through urination and defecation. Then administer Suheli Wan (Suheli Pill) mixed with Ginger Decoction (Shengjiang Tang, 生姜汤), or simply pour Ginger Decoction down the throat, and rub teeth with ginger. If no cow is available, have one person lie prone with their waist bent, allowing the victim to lie transversely on this living person as described above; gently rocking the living person will cause the water to drain. Alternatively, place a large pot upside down on a wide stool, lay the victim prone on the pot ensuring the navel aligns with the center of the pot's base, and support the head with hands.
If it is winter, urgently change wet clothes. Meanwhile, stir-fry salt, wrap it in cloth, and apply heat to the umbilicus; simultaneously, pile thick bedding, spread a large amount of ash from the stove hearth onto the bedding, and cover with more bedding, taking care not to let ash enter the eyes. Procedures such as prying the mouth, inserting chopsticks, administering Suheli Wan and Ginger Decoction, blowing into ears, nose, and anus should follow the summer method. After regaining consciousness in winter, drink soup and wine sparingly; in summer, drink porridge soup sparingly. Note: Ash is warm in nature and can absorb water. Flies that drown can be revived shortly after being buried in ash, which is clear evidence.
If the drowning person smiles, immediately cover their mouth and nose; if not covered, the laughter cannot stop, and rescue becomes impossible. Do not rush to expose them to fire, as seeing fire will cause fatal laughter. Another method: use a wine jar, burn a handful of paper inside, and quickly place the jar's opening over the umbilicus; when cool, burn more paper inside and replace the jar over the umbilicus to remove water, reviving the person. Additionally, if there is still faint breath or warmth in the chest upon initial rescue, quickly have a living person remove their close-fitting warm garment to replace it for the victim; carry the body on a stretcher and tilt it slightly to drain abdominal water. If water flows out, there is hope for life. Meanwhile, burn coarse paper to produce smoke and inhale it through the nose; after a short time, blow fine Sichuan Chinaberry Fruit powder (Zaojiao, 皂角) into the nasal cavity. A slight sneeze indicates survival is possible. Administer wine soup, but ensure it is not too hot to avoid damaging teeth.
Another method: Apply a layer of wall mud on the ground, have the victim lie supine on it, then cover the body with wall earth, exposing only the mouth and eyes. The moisture will naturally be absorbed by the mud, and the person will regain consciousness. This method works even if the body is stiff and breathing has ceased.
Another method: Pour vinegar into the nose; wrap Duan Shi (Calcined Hematite, 锻石) in cotton and insert it into the anus and vagina to drain water.
Another method: Administer duck blood to revive; thereafter, strictly avoid consuming goose and duck meat for life.
