This disease is named "Zouma Yagan" (Running Horse Gangrene of the Gums). It occurs in adults after the recovery from febrile diseases, and in children after the recovery from smallpox or chickenpox, where fire-toxin flows into the Stomach Meridian, causing this affliction. The condition is extremely critical; in severe cases, it leads to tooth loss, perforation of the cheeks, and even penetration through the nose, which can be fatal within one or two days. Hence, it is called "Zouma" (Running Horse), indicating its rapid progression. There are five signs indicating untreatable cases: inability to eat with rotting tongue root; blackish rot resembling sinews; white, floating flesh indicating stomach rot; tooth loss with cheek perforation and unbearable nasal odor; and red spots appearing on the Shangen (root of the nose). Such a dangerous situation means life hangs in the balance. Immediately use Sanqian Sheng Dahuang (3 qian of Raw Rhubarb), Shixiang Ding (10 cloves of Clove), and Erqian Lvdou (2 qian of Mung Bean), grind them together into powder, mix with hot vinegar, and apply to both soles of the feet. This is most effective. Continue treating with the following Jinbian San (Golden Whip Powder), which may offer a 50% chance of survival.
Jinbian San (Golden Whip Powder): Lüfan (5 liang, calcined until red and transparent), Renzhongbai (3 liang), Ming Xiong (2 liang), Zhen Shexiang (1 qian), and Meihua Bingpian (1 qian).
Another prescription: Chishuang San (Red Frost Powder): Specifically treats Zouma Yagan. Take one Red Date, remove the pit, insert one grain of Hongpi (Red Arsenic, size of a soybean), tie it securely, place it on a tile, [text missing/corrupted regarding burning process], and wash/grind.
Another prescription: Use one Sheng Nanxing (Raw Aconitum Bulb), hollow out the center, insert a piece of Xionghuang (Realgar), wrap it in dough, and roast. Wait for the Realgar to melt, then remove it. Cover with a bowl, let it cool, remove the dough, and grind into powder. Add a small amount of Shexiang (Musk), apply to the sore for several days. Very effective. This is also a prescription from Linwu Shanren.
Another prescription, Renzhongbai San (Human Urine Deposit Powder): Treats Zouma Yagan in men, women, and children of all ages, as well as throat pain, rotting and redness, swollen tongue, foul-smelling gums with bleeding, and ulcerated gum beds. Extremely effective. Use Renzhongbai, Ercha, Zhen Qingdai, and Zhen Pengsha (each 1 qian), Bohe, Yuanmingfen, and Maibo (each 5 fen), and Meihua Bingpian (2 fen). Grind them into an extremely fine powder like flour. Place on the tongue until no residue remains, then sprinkle. For severe cases, add Zhen Xiuhuang (3 fen) and Zhen Zhenzhu (5 fen) for faster efficacy. For throat conditions, blow the powder into the throat using a quill tube, three times daily and twice at night. Very wonderful.
