This is caused by the stagnation and accumulation of fire pathogen. Use Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus, stir-fried), Hua Fen (Trichosanthis Radix) each 3 qian, Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 1 liang, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 2 qian; decoct with water and take orally, symptoms will relieve immediately.
Another prescription: Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen) 1 liang, stir-fry with soil from the eastern wall until yellow, boil in water until soft, grind into paste in a mortar, take 2 qian mixed with pure wine each time, the mass will dissipate.
Whenever blood stasis condenses within the abdomen, causing pain that comes and goes intermittently, it is called Pi Ji (accumulation due to qi and blood stagnation). Those with a tangible form are called Zheng (masses), while those without a tangible form are called Jia (fluctuating masses). Additionally, chronic malaria that does not resolve can also lead to Pi Ji; see the Malaria section for formulas.
Xiao Pi Gao (Mass-Dissolving Paste): Treats stubborn masses accumulated over years; even severe cases dissipate after applying up to two patches. Tested repeatedly with miraculous efficacy. Mi Tuo Seng (Lithargyrum) 6 liang, A Wei (Ferulae Resina) 5 qian, Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) and Shui Hong Hua Zi (Polygoni Ayersii Fructus) each 1 liang, Chuan Shan Jia (Manis Squama) 3 qian, Xiang You (Sesame Oil) 1 jin 8 liang. Prepare according to standard paste-making methods. When the paste is ready, add She Xiang (Moschus) 1 qian. Spread on cloth according to the size of the mass and apply externally. The skin at the site of the mass or lump invariably lacks fine hair; mark the area accurately with a pen before application. Internally, grind Shui Hong Hua Zi into powder (3 qian), soak in 2 jin of strong liquor, drink one cup occasionally until the mass dissolves. Shui Hong Hua Zi refers to Polygoni Ayersii Fructus; self-harvested ones are authentic, whereas pharmacy stocks are often counterfeit and ineffective.
Another prescription: Xian Cai (Amaranthus leaves, red or white) 10 jin, wash off mud, do not remove roots, decoct in river water to make two large bowls of soup; take one live soft-shelled turtle, fry in Ma You (Sesame Oil) 8 liang until it beads when dropped in water, add Turtle Shell Paste powder 4 liang (if insufficient turtle shell paste, supplement with Qian Fen [Lead Oxide]), mix evenly into a paste, and store.
Another prescription: Chou Chun Shu Pi (Celastrus bark, upper and middle parts preferred, one large bundle), remove coarse outer bark, use only the white inner bark 2 jin, chop finely, decoct in water in a pot to make paste.
Another prescription: Xiong Huang (Realgar) and Bai Fan (Alumen) each 1 liang, grind into powder, mix with wheat flour paste to form a plaster, spread on cloth and apply externally. Recovery occurs when bowel movements become excessively full and frequent. This is a secret formula.
Another prescription: Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma) and Zao Fan (Ferrosum Sulfas) each 1 liang, mix well, divide into three portions, wrap each in paper, encase in yellow clay balls, and dry in shade. If cracks appear, repair with clay. Once dry, calcine over intense charcoal fire from morning till night, allow to cool overnight. Retrieve the uncharred center, remove the alum, grind only the Xiang Fu into fine powder, bind with jujube flesh to form pills the size of mung beans. Take one pill daily with warm water in the morning; no dietary restrictions are needed. Mild cases resolve within 3–5 doses, severe cases within 7 doses. The pathogenic factor exits via stool. During this period, avoid letting others see you, and do not hear the sounds of chickens or dogs; violating these taboos may cause harm or fire disasters. Remember strictly.
