When the face is red and the body feels hot, take Liangjing Wan (Cooling Convulsion Pill); when the complexion is yellowish-white with fever, use Weiling Tang (Stomach Calming Decoction). When there is fever accompanied by constipation, purge with Sanhuang Xia (Three Yellows Purging Decoction); for those who are emaciated with fever, take Jisheng Wan (Collecting Holy Spirit Pill). For fever caused by Bianzheng (physiological growth fever), apply Tuina (pediatric massage) techniques; for fever due to Jingfeng (convulsions), swallow Daochi San (Guide Out Red Powder) or Xieqing Wan (Drain Green Pill). For fever due to diarrhea, use Weiling Tang combined with Yili Dan (One Pill); for hot diarrhea, administer together with Yulu San (Jade Dew Powder). For cold diarrhea, take Lizhong Wan (Regulate the Middle Pill); for diarrhea with thirst, take Baizhu San (Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder) to generate fluids. For dysentery, combine Baohe Wan (Preserve Harmony Pill) with Xianglian Wan (Coptis and Cinnamon Pill); for malaria, regulating the Spleen will bring natural peace; for cough with phlegm qi rebellion, use Yuye Tang (Jade Fluid Decoction); for edema, use Weiling Tang guiding with Dengxincao (Cyperus Rotundus Rhizome). For Cangjie (a type of skin disease), Huma Wan (Sesame Seed Pill) is best; regulating the Spleen is most effective for protecting infants. For roundworms and Taenia solium (tapeworm), use Jisheng Wan; instruct carefully on medication timing.
In newborns aged three to five days, blood in stool may appear. Black stool is meconium; bright red stool is truly alarming. If a newborn vomits immediately after birth, it is because milk has accumulated in the stomach. Once the milk is exhausted, vomiting stops naturally; if it persists, it indicates a dire prognosis.
Within ten days after birth, if an infant cries frequently and sneezes often due to insufficient breast milk, quickly check for pearl bubbles in the throat and scrape them away manually to prevent disturbance.
If one fails to observe for Cuowei Feng (umbilical wind/neonatal tetanus symptoms), and finds little stool passing through the umbilicus, urgently administer Jiudu Yao (Detoxifying Medicine); once stool passes smoothly, the condition can be managed. If there is constipation, abdominal distension, tight mouth biting lips turning cyanotic, and frequent convulsions of hands and feet, this is severe Umbilical Wind, which is difficult to treat.
Abdominal distension without defecation is named Suodu (Locked Belly); inability to suckle due to tight jaw is called Jinfeng (Lockjaw). Eyes staring straight, crying, abdominal pain resembling coiled intestines, and Tian Diao (Heavenly Hook/Opisthotonos) where the body arches backward like a bow—these conditions in newborns mean parents' joy turns to emptiness (loss of child).
Newborns often undergo Bianzheng (growth fever cycles), occurring every thirty-two days, requiring careful calculation. Like silkworms sleeping, it enhances intelligence, manifesting as whole-body fever and drowsiness.
No medication is needed for Bianzheng; it resolves naturally in three days. If complicated by external pathogens, use Xingxing San (Awakening Powder); if due to food stagnation, use Baohe Wan (Preserve Harmony Pill).
Xingxing San contains: Renshen (Ginseng Root), Gancao (Licorice Root), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome), Baifuling (Poria with Hostwood), Xixin (Asarum Root) in small amounts, Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), and Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), totaling nine ingredients.
For Tai Re (Fetal Heat), take Gancao Huanglian Tang (Licorice and Coptis Decoction); for Tai Han (Fetal Cold), use the formula removing Coptis and adding Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig); for Tai Huang (Fetal Jaundice), add Yinchen (Artemisia Capillaris Herb) to Licorice; for Tai Jing (Fetal Convulsion), single-ingredient Chen Sha (Cinnabar) is excellent; for Tai Shou (Fetal Emaciation) and Tai Fei (Fetal Obesity), use bathing methods; for Tai Qie (Fetal Weakness) and Wu Ruan (Five Softnesses), use Dihuang (Rehmannia Root) formulas. These are family secrets passed down orally; descendants must memorize them and not forget.
Liver color is mostly green; Heart color is red; Spleen is yellow; Lung is white; Kidney is black. Yellow indicates deficiency in Ganji (Childhood Malnutrition); black indicates Zhong'e (Evil Strike); red indicates Heat; green indicates Jingfeng (Convulsion).
