Fetal heat and fetal cold are caused by a deficiency in the endowment received from parents.
Fetal Heat: After birth, the infant presents with a red face, hot breath from the eyes and mouth, anxious crying, and restlessness.
Gancao (Licorice Root) (1 qian) Heidou (Black Soybean) (2 qian) Danzhuye (Lophatherum Leaf) (5 leaves)
The above herbs are cut into pieces for one dose, added with seven stalks of Dengcao (Juncus Effusus), decocted in water, and administered frequently in small amounts. The nursing mother should also take it frequently.
Fetal Cold: If the mother was exposed to cold during pregnancy, the infant may present with a bluish-white complexion, cold extremities, dark green-black stool, cold mouth and abdominal pain, and shivering.
Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) (stir-fried) Huangqi (Astragalus Root) (honey-fried) Guixin (Cinnamon Heart) Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) (stir-fried) Xixin (Asarum Root) Longgu (Fossilized Bones) (finely ground) Baishao (White Peony Root) (roasted, equal parts)
The above herbs are ground into fine powder. Take one spoonful per dose, mixed with breast milk.
Umbilical Wind and Mouth Closure are caused by toxic pathogens in the fetal origin.
Umbilical Wind: Often due to wind-dampness invading during umbilical cord cutting, or due to heat-toxin in the fetal constitution. Upon birth, pressing the umbilicus will reveal hardness, confirming Umbilical Wind. A blue vein will emerge from the umbilicus; if it reaches the abdomen, it splits into two branches. If it reaches the heart, death is inevitable. At the initial emergence of the blue vein, urgently ignite a rush wick dipped in oil and cauterize the head and branching ends of the vein to block its progression and prevent it from attacking the heart. Additionally, moxa moxibustion on Zhongwan (CV12) for three moxa cones, and internal administration of Wanli Pill (1-2 pills) to drain fetal toxins.
Wutong Gao (Five-Pass Ointment) treats Infant Umbilical Wind and Mouth Closure.
Shengdihuang (Rehmannia Root) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) Congbai (White Part of Scallion) Luobozhong (Radish Seed) Tianluorou (Field Snail Meat) (equal parts)
Mash the above ingredients together, apply around the umbilicus with a thickness of one finger-width, and secure for one hour. Recovery occurs upon passage of flatus.
For improper umbilical cord cutting where wind symptoms appear within seven days, use 2-3 straight Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), stir-fry to remove silk, grind into powder, mix with honey, and apply to the mouth or nipple, or tie below the navel belt.
Xiangluo Gao (Snail Shell Ointment) treats Umbilical Wind swelling hard like a plate.
Three Tianluo (Field Snails), add a small amount of Shexiang (Musk), mash, apply to the umbilicus, replace after a short while; swelling and pain subside immediately.

Mix uniformly into fine powder. Take half a zi per dose, mixed with Jin Yin Hua (Honeysuckle) decoction.
Mouth Closure: Caused by fetal qi carrying heat, wind pathogen entering the umbilicus, toxin flowing through the Heart and Spleen meridians, causing tongue stiffness, cyanotic lips, and inability to open the mouth while crying. Examine the gum line above the teeth for millet-grain-sized blisters. Urgently dip a finger wrapped in green cotton cloth in warm water and gently break the blister to allow the mouth to open and relieve distress. For severe cases, use Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis) 2 fen, mixed with Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), and drip into the mouth.

For night crying due to violating taboos, fumigate with Cu Tan (Vinegar Charcoal) and administer Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pill).
One formula: Use one matchstick head, 4-5 cun long, flattened. Write on the surface with Zhusha (Cinnabar): "Fire-poking stick, fire-poking stick, come forth as spirit, catch the night-crying ghost, kill it and do not release, quickly as the law commands."
