Pulse: The five accumulations (Wu Ji) belong to Yin, with pulses deep and hidden against the bone. Liver pulse is wiry (Xian), Heart pulse is hollow (Kou), Kidney pulse is deep, urgent, slippery, Spleen pulse is full and long, Lung pulse is floating with sudden panting. The six aggregations (Liu Ju) present with sinking pulses; when chronic, they may show floating and knotted qualities. There are also mass-like formations (Jia), whose pulses are mostly wiry. A wiry pulse indicates knotted masses; if combined with a fine quality, it suggests hardness. A heavy pulse that scatters upon moderate pressure often indicates food-derived癖块 (Pi). A heavy pulse on the left side suggests Qi stagnation in the chest; if involving muscle tissue, the right-side pulse may appear transverse. For accumulations and masses, a tight pulse indicates winding pain. A weak pulse indicates death, while a solid and strong pulse indicates recovery.
A痞块 (Pi Kuai) is another name for 瘕 (Jia). Those that cannot move are called 积块 (Ji Kuai); those that can move, either to the left or right, are called 瘕块 (Jia Kuai). The five Zang organs correspond to the five accumulations, and the six Fu organs correspond to the six aggregations. Accumulations have fixed locations, whereas aggregations do not. Qi alone cannot form a mass or aggregation; masses are tangible entities formed by phlegm, food retention, and dead blood. This principle is clear. Generally, the center involves phlegm-fluids, the left side involves blood masses, and the right side involves food retention. All are treated with Kui Jian Tang (Crush Hardness Decoction), modified into pills, primarily focusing on resolving phlegm, invigorating blood, regulating Qi, and strengthening the Spleen. Accumulations have fixed locations and involve tangible blood stasis; aggregations have no fixed location and involve intangible Qi stagnation; accumulation masses consist of phlegm, food retention, and dead blood.
Kui Jian Tang (Crush Hardness Decoction) is the general prescription for treating the five accumulations, six aggregations, various masses (Jia), and癖块 (Pi) blood masses.
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma - remove rhizome head), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Tuberum - stir-fried with ginger juice), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zhi Shi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus - bran-stir-fried), Shan Zha Rou (Crataegi Fructus), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Hou Po (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex - stir-fried with ginger juice), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) (all in equal parts).
Grind these ingredients into one dose, add one slice of fresh ginger, decoct in water, and take with ground Mu Xiang powder mixed in. Add Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) for masses in the left hypochondrium; add Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) for masses in the right hypochondrium; add Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma - stir-fried with ginger) for meat-induced masses; add Shen Qu (Massae Fermentatae Medicinalis) for flour-induced retention; add Tao Ren (Persicae Semen), Hong Hua (Carthami Flos), and Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus) for blood masses, removing Ban Xia and Shan Zha; add Hai Shi (Fossilia Silicis), Gua Lou (Trichosanthis Fructus), and Zhi Shi for phlegm masses, removing Shan Zha; add Luo Bo Zi (Raphani Semen) and Bing Lang (Arecae Semen) for distension, removing Bai Zhu; add E Zhu (Curcumae Rhizoma) for robust individuals; add a small amount of Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) for frail individuals.
Kui Jian Wan (Crush Hardness Pill) is based on this formula, adding Hai Shi (Fossilia Silicis), Leng Zi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus), and Bie Jia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum). Grind all into fine powder. Dissolve A Wei (Ferulae Resina) in vinegar and mix with the herbal powder. Use ginger juice to make paste pills, sized like paulownia seeds. Take 50 pills at any time, washed down with yellow wine or clear rice soup.

Grind these into one dose, add one slice of fresh ginger and one jujube, decoct in water, and take orally.
Hua Pi Dan (Plum-Petition Eliminating Pellet) is a specialized agent for attacking and eliminating accumulation masses.
Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (4 liang, soaked in rice vinegar for 7 days, exposed to sun by day and dew by night for 7 days), Mu Bie Zi (Strychni Semen - oil removed, 1 liang), Chuan Shan Jia (Manis Squama - earth-stir-fried, 3 liang), Xiang Fu Mi (Cyperi Rhizoma - soaked in child's urine, stir-fried, 1 liang), Tao Ren (Persicae Semen - peeled, pounded, 1 liang), Hong Hua (Carthami Flos) (3 qian, raw), Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis) (5 fen).

Take 50 or 60 pills per dose, washed down with decoction of Mao Gen (Imperatae Rhizoma) and Ge Gen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix).
