The Stomach Meridian of Foot-Yangming, Neiguan (PC6, Pericardium Luo-Connecting Point), Hegu (LI4, Yuan-Source Point of the Large Intestine Meridian) are treated with plum-blossom needle tapping to induce bleeding.
[folk remedy]
Use a large-headed needle or a three-edged needle to prick Chengjiang (CV24, located in the depression below the lower lip) to bleed (after pricking, squeeze the surrounding skin with both hands to facilitate bleeding).
[Ancient prescription]
Perform bloodletting at Jinjin and Yuye points (located on the sublingual veins on either side of the frenulum; left is Jinjin, right is Yuye).
18. Hematemesis (Vomiting Blood)
This syndrome is mostly caused by the imbalance of Yin and Yang in the Spleen, Stomach, and Liver meridians. It arises from excessive heat in the Stomach causing blood to float upwards, or from overthinking damaging the Spleen Qi so it fails to control blood, or from sudden anger injuring the Liver causing blood to follow rebellious Qi upward. When using bloodletting therapy for hematemesis, the main principles are to drain Stomach heat and calm Liver fire; the amount of blood let should not be excessive. Deficiency syndromes require tonification, while excess syndromes require draining.
[Treatment]
Neiting (ST44, Ying-Spring Point of the Stomach Meridian) and Weishu (BL21, Back-Shu Point of the Stomach) are pricked with a three-edged needle to bleed.
Geshu (BL17, Back-Shu Point of the Diaphragm), Qimen (LR14, Front-Mu Point of the Liver) are treated with cupping for 15 minutes.
Both sides of the spine are tapped with a plum-blossom needle to induce bleeding.
[Supplementary prescription]
Lidui (ST45, Jing-Well Point of the Stomach Meridian) and Fenglong (ST40, Luo-Connecting Point of the Stomach Meridian) are pricked with a three-edged needle to bleed.
Dazhui (GV14, Convergence Point of Yang Meridians) and Ganshu (BL18, Back-Shu Point of the Liver) are treated with cupping for 15 minutes.
The neck, Zusanli (ST36, He-Sea Point of the Stomach Meridian), Hegu (LI4), and Neiguan (PC6) are tapped with a plum-blossom needle to induce bleeding.
[Ancient prescription]
Prick Lidui, Zusanli, Weishu, and other acupoints to bleed.
19. Diarrhea
This disease is mostly caused by invasion of Wind, Cold, Dampness, or Heat pathogens, improper diet, Spleen and Stomach deficiency-cold, or failure of Kidney Yang to warm. For deficiency syndromes, little blood is let; for excess syndromes, more blood is drained. This is combined with Chinese and Western medicine treatment.
[Treatment]
Quchi (LI11, He-Sea Point of the Large Intestine Meridian), Neiting (ST44), and Renzhong (GV26) are pricked with a three-edged needle to bleed.
Dazhui (GV14), Ganshu (BL18), and Pishu (BL20, Back-Shu Point of the Spleen) are treated with cupping for 15 minutes.
Zusanli (ST36), Sanyinjiao (SP6), and Neiguan (PC6) are tapped with a plum-blossom needle to induce bleeding.
[Supplementary prescription]
Erjian (LI2, Ying-Spring Point of the Large Intestine Meridian) and Shangjuxu (ST37, Lower He-Sea Point of the Large Intestine Meridian) are pricked with a three-edged needle to bleed.
Shenzhu (GV12), Weishu (BL21), and Zhongwan (CV12) are treated with cupping for 15 minutes.
Both sides of the spine and the lower abdomen are tapped with a plum-blossom needle to induce bleeding.
[Folk remedy]
Prick the four corners around the umbilicus (Shenque area) to bleed.
[Ancient prescription]
1. Prick Changqiang (GV1, Luo-Connecting Point of the Du Meridian) with a three-edged needle to bleed.
2. Apply cupping to the umbilicus for 15 minutes, then prick to bleed.
20. Jaundice
This syndrome is mostly caused by external seasonal pathogens and irregular diet, damaging the functions of the Liver, Gallbladder, Spleen, and Stomach, leading to retention of Dampness or accumulation of Damp-Heat. If the pathology leans towards Heat, it is Yang Jaundice; if it leans towards Cold, it is Yin Jaundice. Cold syndromes are mainly treated with cupping, while Heat syndromes are mainly treated with bloodletting.
[Treatment]
Xingjian (LR2, Ying-Spring Point of the Liver Meridian) and Danshu (BL19, Back-Shu Point of the Gallbladder) are pricked with a three-edged needle to bleed.
Dazhui (GV14), Ganshu (BL18), and Qimen (LR14) are treated with cupping for 15 minutes.
The chest and hypochondrium are tapped with a plum-blossom needle to induce bleeding.
[Supplementary prescription]
Ganshu (BL18) and Taichong (LR3, Yuan-Source Point of the Liver Meridian) are pricked with a three-edged needle to bleed.
Shenzhu (GV12), Danshu (BL19), and Pishu (BL20) are treated with cupping for 15 minutes.
Zusanli (ST36), Dazhui (GV14), and Hegu (LI4) are tapped with a plum-blossom needle to induce bleeding.
[Folk remedy]
On the back of the neck, use a plum-blossom needle to prick until bleeding, then apply 3 cups to draw out more blood.
[Ancient prescription]
1. Prick Jiali point with a three-edged needle to bleed.
2. Prick Bailao, Zusanli (ST36), and Zhongwan (CV12) to bleed.
3. Use a three-edged needle to prick Pishu (BL20) to bleed.
21. Impotence
This syndrome is mostly caused by early marriage and excessive sexual desire, leading to Kidney Qi deficiency, decline of Mingmen Fire, and exhaustion of Essence and Qi; or due to fear injuring the Kidney, all of which can lead to impotence. Malaria, commonly known as "shaking chills," occurs frequently in summer and autumn. It is caused by invasion of Wind, Cold, Summerheat, or Dampness pathogens, which lie latent between the interior and exterior. The Ying and Wei Qi contend, and the Healthy Qi fights the Pathogenic Qi, resulting in illness. If malaria persists without cure and recurs repeatedly, it consumes Qi and Blood, and Phlegm condenses under the hypochondrium, forming "Mamo" (splenomegaly).

3. Metrorrhagia and Metrostaxis (Beng Lou)
Metrorrhagia and metrostaxis are characterized by abnormal uterine bleeding, heavy volume, and occurring at irregular times. Causes include unresolved emotions causing Liver Qi stagnation turning into fire over time, with pathogenic heat forcing blood to bleed recklessly; or excessive sexual activity damaging Kidney Qi, leading to insecurity of the Chong and Ren vessels; or irregular diet and overthinking damaging Spleen Qi, causing Spleen deficiency and failure to control blood. It can also be caused by blood stasis in the uterus. Deficiency syndromes require tonification, while excess syndromes require draining.
