Blood flooding (metrorrhagia), Li Dongyuan has treatment methods, but does not mention heat pathogen, with the main focus on cold syndrome. Students should ponder this. In acute cases, treat the branch/symptom first: use white water to mix and take Baicaoshuang (Cinnabar/Soot) powder; for severe cases, use Zonglun Hui (Areca Palm Ash). Afterwards, regulate with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus fried Ganjiang (Dried Ginger). For those caused by fatigue, use Shenqi (Ginseng and Atractylodes Macrocephala) and other ascending and tonifying herbs; for those caused by cold, use Ganjiang (Dried Ginger); for those caused by heat, use Huangqin (Scutellaria Root); for excessive bleeding, first administer a dose of Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung) powder, distinguishing between cold and heat. This is because Wulingzhi can both invigorate blood and stop bleeding. If the menstrual blood is purple and forms clumps, it is a heat syndrome, treated with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) and similar herbs. For women with blood flooding, take Xiangfu Baizhi Wan (Cyperi Rhizoma and Angelicae Dahuricae Radix Pill). For Qi deficiency and Blood deficiency, all use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus Renshen (Ginseng Root) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome). Leaking (intermenstrual spotting) is due to heat and deficiency, treated with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome). For flooding accompanied by leukorrhea, use Jiaomu (Semen Lepidii) powder, or a mixture of Baizhu (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Duanshizhi (Calcined Alumen), and Qiancao (Rubia Cordifolia Root) made into pills with rice porridge. Another prescription uses Shenggoutougu (Canis Cranium) burnt to charcoal preserving its nature, taken with wine or in decoction. Another prescription uses half raw and half fried Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung) powder, taken with wine. When menstrual blood flows retrograde, presenting with a bloody odor, hematemesis, or spitting blood, drinking Jiucai Zhi (Chinese Chive Juice) is effective. The cause of metrorrhagia in women lies in damage to the Zang-Fu organs, resulting in deficiency of Qi and Blood in the Chong and Ren meridians. These two meridians are the sea of the twelve meridians; the movement of Qi and Blood circulates externally along the collaterals and nourishes the internal Zang-Fu internally. If Qi and Blood are harmonious and balanced, menstruation occurs on time. If labor is excessive, damaging all Zang-Fu organs, the Qi of the Chong and Ren becomes deficient and cannot restrain the menstrual blood, causing sudden profuse discharge, termed "Bengzhong" (sudden flooding). Treatment should employ large doses of herbs to tonify Qi and Blood, support and nourish the Spleen and Stomach, slightly add herbs to suppress Heart Fire, treat the Heart, tonify Yin and drain Yang, and menstruation will naturally cease.
