Leukorrhea: red discharge belongs to the blood level, and white discharge belongs to the Qi level. The primary treatment principle is to dry dampness. Both metrorrhagia (irregular uterine bleeding) and leukorrhea result from phlegm accumulation in the Stomach flowing downward and infiltrating the Bladder; this mechanism is unknown to many. Treatment should primarily employ lifting methods. In severe cases, emesis (inducing vomiting) must be used at the upper body to lift the Qi, while at the lower body, Er Chen Tang (Two-Cured Decoction) combined with Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) and Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) should be used, preferably prepared as pills (another version suggests Wa Leng Zi / Arca Shell). It is also said that both red and white leukorrhea belong to the blood level and originate from the boundaries of the Large Intestine and Small Intestine. Obese individuals are prone to damp-phlegm patterns; they may use Hai Shi (Ardisia Stone), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Chao Huang Bo (Stir-fried Phellodendri Cortex), Hua Shi (Talcum), Chun Pi (Toosendan Fructus or Ailanthi Cortex - context implies Ailanthi/Chun Zhi Gen Pi usually, but text says Chun Pi, often associated with Toosendan or Ailanthi depending on region, here likely Ailanthi based on other formulas, but strictly translating term Chun Pi), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) into pills. If Hai Shi is unavailable, Ge Fen (Clam Powder) can be substituted. One formula adds Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis) for pill preparation. For red and white leukorrhea, stir-fried Jing Ji Zi (Schizonepetae Capitium) can be ground into powder and taken with wine (2 qian) or rice soup; it also treats heart pain. Master Luo’s method involves using Shi Zao Tang (Ten Jujube Decoction), Shen You Wan (Divine Protection Pill), or Yu Zhu San (Jade Candle Powder), all of which are applicable. Excess patterns can be purged, but deficiency patterns must not be aggressively attacked. For blood deficiency, Jia Jian Si Wu Tang (Modified Four Substances Decoction) is used; for Qi deficiency, Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), and Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) are selected according to the situation; for damp excess, Gu Chang Wan (Intestine-Strengthening Pill) is used; if ministerial fire is hyperactive, a small amount of Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) is added to the aforementioned herbs; for slippery/prolapse symptoms, Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi) and Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysitum Rubrum) are added; for stagnation, Kui Hua (Sunflower Petal) is added (white petals treat white leukorrhea, red petals treat red leukorrhea); for dryness patterns, Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma) is added; for phlegm-Qi leukorrhea, pills made of Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Xiang Fu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Hua Shi (Talcum), Ge Fen (Clam Powder), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), and Fu Ling (Poria) are taken. In cold months, Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) is added in small amounts, adapting to clinical changes. Rich and greasy foods must be avoided.

[Appendix] Red and white leukorrhea are all caused by internal injury from the Seven Emotions, or deficiency and exhaustion of the Lower Yuan; the causes are manifold. He Su He (Wang Shuhe) said: "Metrorrhagia lasting long becomes leukorrhea; leakage depletes the sea of blood, causing loss of fluids, leading to dryness that fails to nourish sinews and bones." The method of prescribing requires using channel-guiding herbs from the relevant category as guiding and guiding agents. Great acrid-sweet and greasy drugs moisten dryness and nourish fluids; great acrid-hot drugs tonify Yang channels and generate blood vessels; bitter-cold drugs drain Lung heat and rescue upper heat damaging Qi; Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) tonifies; slightly bitter-warm drugs serve as assistants to benefit Yuan Qi. This is the general principle of treatment.
