Yellow urine is treated with Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex); if accompanied by dysuria and frequent urination, Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) may be added. It is also said that for difficult urination, Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) serve as the sovereign drugs (Jun Yao), while Fuling (Poria) and Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) act as the ministerial drugs (Shi Yao). If damp-heat flows into the lower jiao, causing red and yellow urine with a sensation of obstruction and stasis, using Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) is highly appropriate; if it is due to blood deficiency in the lower jiao, resulting in obstructive, frequent, and red urine, Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), and Gancaoshao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Melle) is suitable.
When using guiding drugs (Yin Jing Yao), the main prescription should weigh six liang, while the guiding drug should only be half a liang. Baila (Beech Wax) belongs to Metal and possesses the nature of astringency and solidification; it is an essential external medicine that generates flesh, stops bleeding, alleviates pain, reconnects bones, heals tendons, and tonifies deficiency. When combined with Hehuanshu Pi (Albiziae Cortex) to make a flesh-generating ointment, its effect is miraculous.
To prepare Xuanmingfen (Mirabilite), boil one jin of Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas) with one jin of Luobo (Raphani Fructus) until the radish is cooked. Remove the mixture, filter it through white paper into a porcelain vessel, expose it overnight, and store it; this can also be prepared in winter.
For treating ascending qi, generally use Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), and Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus).
Medicines that tonify Middle Qi require prolonged administration to take effect slowly; drugs that rapidly purge pathogens, such as sweating and purging methods, produce quick results.
Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) soaked in wine and stir-fried: when used with Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), it tonifies the Spleen; when used with Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), it drains the Liver; when used with Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), it tonifies Qi. It treats abdominal pain due to Blood deficiency; it is contraindicated for other types of abdominal pain.
Individuals with dark complexions should not consume too much Huangqi (Astragali Radix), as their Qi is already substantial and further tonification would be excessive. Individuals with fair complexions should not use too many dispersing agents, as their Qi is deficient and dispersion would cause further depletion. Fair-complexioned individuals should not drink alcohol, as alcohol consumes Blood. If a person with substantial Qi develops asthma from excessive consumption of Huangqi (Astragali Radix), San'ao Tang (Three Unblocking Decoction) is used to drain the Qi.
After using Jiaoye (Zanthoxyli Folium) to raise Stomach Qi, if chest fullness occurs, it is due to pre-existing Phlegm; Erchen Tang (Two Aged Things Decoction) added with Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), and Chaoqu (Stir-fried Medicated Leaven) is indicated.
Erchen Tang (Two Aged Things Decoction) treats turbid Phlegm; adding lifting herbs can moisten the stool and increase urination.
For curvature of the waist with inability to extend, needling Renzhong (GV26) is excellent.
Long-standing aversion to cold in chronic illness can also be resolved by resolving depression.
Diseases caused by food retention and Phlegm in the Middle Jiao will not result in sudden death as long as Stomach Qi remains intact.
If red spots suddenly appear on the facial skin during illness, death is likely.
In treating disease, one must first inquire about the patient's daily routine and diet.
Qi belongs to Yang and does not have the nature of Cold; the sensation of aversion to cold accompanying ascending Qi is due to hyperactivity causing harm, which is then controlled by succession.
When a person lies down, Qi floats to the Lung.
In treating disease, one must first consolidate Righteous Qi (Zheng Qi).
Following the rising, descending, floating, and sinking corresponds to following the seasonal Qi, without violating the Harmony of Heaven.
Opposing Cold, Heat, Warmth, and Coolness constitutes the method of treating Heat with Cold.
When examining the pulse, if a malignant pulse is found, the hand should be reversed to palpate again. If it matches the normal palpation, Yuan Qi (Original Qi) is exhausted, and the condition is difficult to treat; if it differs, the pulse is complex, and death is not certain. A wiry and hard pulse indicates accumulation but also Yin deficiency, lacking the softness associated with Water. A tight pulse felt firmly indicates severe Qi deficiency and likely death; aggressive tonification of Qi is needed. In cases of Yin deficiency without Water, use Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), etc. For physical emaciation, Qi must be tonified with Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma); for pale complexion, tonify Qi; for obese individuals, tonify Qi.
Acupuncture primarily drains rather than tonifies; its subtlety lies in pressing firmly to immobilize Qi and Blood, thereby preventing pain, allowing needling anywhere.
Moxibustion has tonifying and draining fire methods. For tonifying fire, the moxa cone should touch the skin; for draining fire, it should not touch the skin.
To locate Zusanli (ST36), follow ancient methods; if the foot Yangming pulse does not respond, that point is correct, as Zusanli (ST36) belongs to the Yangming Meridian.
For non-healing moxibustion sores, use Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Gancao Jie (Licorice Joint), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), and Huangdan (Lithargyrum), fried in Sesame Oil to make an ointment for application.
A 19-year-old woman with substantial Qi and suppressed anger suddenly cried out and nearly fainted due to Phlegm blocking the upper Jiao and Fire rising from the lower Jiao. Initially, she was given Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) 5 qian, Sheng Gancao (Raw Licorice Root) 3 qian, and Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 7 qian, decocted with Tongbian (Child's Urine) and Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice). She was also administered pills made from Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Renzhongbai (Calculus Humanus), and Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) powder. Her condition improved slightly but did not resolve. Finally, induced vomiting brought relief. After vomiting, Daotan Tang (Great Phlegm Resolving Decoction) added with Jiangchao Huanglian (Ginger-fried Coptidis Rhizoma), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) was decocted and taken, followed by Longhui Wan (Dragon Gallbladder Pill).
For body odor, use Qingsha (Realgar), Miduoseng (Galena), Mingfan (Alumen), Tongqing (Chrysocolla), Baifuzi (Typhonii Rhizoma), and Chensha (Cinnabar) powdered. Wash the area two or three times with Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Spina) water, then apply the powder. Use steamed dough balls dipped in the medicine to rub the affected area.
To treat Chiyoufeng (Red Roaming Wind), stir-fry Can Sha (Silkworm Frass), grind finely, mix with the natural juice of Jiandao Cao Gen (Arum Tenuissimum Root), apply to the abdomen first, then to the lesion, leaving one side open for exit. Movement of the lesion indicates efficacy. Jiandao Cao Gen is also known as Ye Cigu (Wild Arum).
Jinchai Shihu (Dendrobii Nobile Caulis), 2 qian washed clean, with one slice of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), pounded fine, shaken in water, boiled, strained, and drunk before meals, is excellent for tonifying the Spleen and clearing the Lungs.
For Jiufeng (Wind caused by Alcohol) with frequent spasms, use Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 0.5 liang, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 2.5 qian, Gancao (Licorice Root) 3 qian, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) finely cut and soaked in wine; Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 1 qian soaked in wine, Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) 1.5 qian. If urination is excessive, add Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus). Grind all into powder and form pills for administration.
