Treats all types of edema and swelling caused by water-dampness, accompanied by dry stool with abdominal distension, wheezing, and chest fullness.
Qingfen (Calomelas, 1 qian) Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang) Qianniu (Pharbitidis Semen, 2 liang) Yuanhua (Genkwa Flos, stir-fried with vinegar) Gansui (Kansui Radix) Daji (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix, each 5 qian)
Grind the above herbs into powder, add drops of water to form pills the size of small beans. Start with five pills, increasing by five pills per dose, taken with warm water, until the disease is resolved.
Treats aversion to cold in the back, desiring to wear cotton even in midsummer. The back belongs to Yang; when dampness invades the Taiyang channel, prolonged stagnation transforms into heat, becoming like fire. When fire arises, phlegm follows, infiltrating the back. Combined with alcohol consumption—alcohol being a damp-heat substance—it combines with the pathogen, causing damp-phlegm accumulation. Although there is external aversion to cold, internally there is damp-heat. First dry the dampness, then descend the fire, and the disease will be eliminated. The formula contains many Taiyang meridian-guiding herbs and can overcome dampness.
Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, 1.5 qian) Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix, 1.5 qian) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Gaoben (Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma) Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus) Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, each 1 qian)
Decoct in two zhong of water, take well after meals.
Treats deficiency of Qi in the Spleen and Kidney, resulting from wading in water or lying on damp ground, leading to cold sweat and Bi syndrome. Excessive dampness in the meridians causes wind-damp hemiplegia, pain in the knees, waist, and feet, heaviness in the feet, and difficulty walking.
See the section on Gout for this formula.

Treats damp-heat in summer and autumn, causing pain in the waist, back, and hips, body heaviness and lethargy, a sensation as if the body were clamped in a board, and feet feeling heavy as if weighed down by sand.
Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, slightly stir-fried) Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, soaked and stir-fried) Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) Yiyiren (Coicis Semen) Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, stir-fried) Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) Fuling (Poria) Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata) Honghua (Carthami Flos) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, equal parts)
Decoct in two zhong of water with three slices of ginger and one jujube.
Treats shoulder and back pain with inability to turn the head. This is due to stagnation and non-circulation of Taiyang Qi, dispersed using wind-dispelling herbs. Spinal pain and neck stiffness, waist feeling as if breaking, neck feeling as if pulling, indicate non-circulation of Foot-Taiyang channel Qi.
